I can’t be bothered going into chapter and verse about the latest idiot to hit the blogwaves (yep, my blog, I can now be as rabid as I please) I believe JaynieR perfectly echoed my sentiments in her blog, but the one thing I learned in the past 24 hours, is that there’s some really stupid people out there.

I’m not an author, so the worst thing that can happen to me if I piss somebody off, is that they stop talking to me (and let’s face it, sometimes that’s more of a blessing than a curse) but as an author, NO, NO, NO. NO!!! You can’t say just say what you want, or should I say you can, but what happens, is that you lose readers. There are huge double standards at work here, but let’s face it, this is the way things work, you have books to sell, I don’t.

If Ms Buy Yourself a Clue, had critiqued certain elements of the erotic romance genre, I don’t think many people would have had a problem, because many of the things she had to say, do apply to some erotic romance books, but she didn’t really do that did she? She put every single erotic author out there in the same boat, which was mistake number one. Mistake number two, was calling erotic romance readers Fetish-Ridden Verbal Crack Whores, yep, nice going Bitch! Can I interest you in a copy of Dale Carnegie’s, ‘How To Win Friends and Influence People’?

And Melissa Alvarez at NAD, yeah actually, I do think that the Preditors and Editors Poll was an absolute farce. You won 8 of the categories including Best Art Cover,(cue burst of laughter) Best Editor, and Best Publisher in your first year, even though nobody could actually figure out who you were, and had twelve top ten places? Whatever! I thought it was fishy at the time, before I actually cared, now I know it’s definitely fishy, yeah I’m calling you on it, wanna know the name of my lawyer?

If anybody disagrees with me, that’s completely ok, it’s a free world, but do me a favour, don’t post anonymously, because that kind of negates anything useful you have to say. Have the courage of your convictions, and don’t hide behind a false name either.

Bravo Karen! *clapping* Don’t forget to mention the fact that their trying to say that I insinuated that I was an author for their publishing company was nothing but a “typical public relations crisis management technique! The publisher chose to misunderstand your comment so that they could side-step the real issue — that their author went too far with her attempt to generate interest in her work.” That’s a quote from “someone who worked in literary PR for many years.” This whole thing is a HUGE mistake on the author’s part and now she’s going to pay the price with negative feed back and surely negative sales. And the fact that her publisher backed her so thoroughly will definitely reflect on their overall sales.. after all, she did call us fetish-ridden verbal crack whores.

In my opinion all Diana was doing was expressing a thought that other people have, she was just the only one brave enough to tackle the issue.
What you’re doing here is no different to what she did anyway. Why can you say what you want and she can’t, you’re right, it’s all double standards.

I’ll still buy her books, and I think it’s very petty of you to flame her in a public forum. Who do you think you are?

Actually, no, Diana didn’t make that remark, Karen did, in asking Diana if that was how she would refer to Karen for enjoying various types of erotic fiction.

The top bar of this blog states: ‘It’s My Blog and I’ll Say What I Want To!’ How is stating that any different from someone expressing an opinion elsewhere that you didn’t happen to agree with?

    And I quote, from KarenS
http://www.karenscottworld.blogspot.com, copied and pasted from the New Age Dimensions Author Loop:

“I read Patricia Cornwell, Jeffrey Archer, John Grisham,Tom Clancy,
Douglas Adams, and other ‘serious’ books, yet at the same time, I
love to read romance, and erotic romance. How are you going to label
me? As a fetish-ridden verbal crack whore?”

How easy it is to put blame on someone else for your own wrongdoings, huh? THIS is how idiocy procreates. You should clarify that Diana did NOT say that, instead you proclaim in your blog that she did.

    Shame on WHO?!

That’s right just mosey on by, and drop a line here or there, the fact is nobody’s convinced because YOU weren’t brave enough to leave your name, which in my minds means you’re one of those people who thinks one thing, but would probably say another, yep, two faced as all get out!

As Karen said for those of you who didn’t bother reading her post properly, she doesn’t suffer if she annoys people, however as an author, the level of responsibility you have is infintely higher.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it Ms anonymous-who-is-too-scared-to-leave-her-name!

Oh, PUH-leeze. I don’t need validation. The point I made was valid enough as you can see it was a direct quote aimed at the viper who is allowing someone else to take the blame for something SHE said. How is that fair?

It not only has everything to do with WHAT was said, but WHO said it. Diana Laurence is being unjustly and unfairly blamed for something totally unrelated to her. Wouldn’t that piss YOU off if someone did the same to a favorite author, family member, or friend of yours?

But…if it will make a difference to said viper…

Why go anonymous? If you’ve got something to say, let us know who you are so we can tell everyone exactly who the idiot was that posted drivel on Karen’s blog.

    Here’s what Diana DID say:
“So its the same old hackneyed vampire, lycan, sex club, weekend orgy, sex slave, slave bride, alien/robotic sex toy thang. The names are changed but you will find the same C-words employed liberally if not creatively. To me this stuff is just verbal crack: if you have a fetish for the stuff it will turn you on, but there’s nothing nourishing to the mind, heart or soul to be found in it.”

Well, we just happen to like that “verbal crack” so does that make us verbal crack addicts? There is nothing wrong with any of the “C” words out there. Cock. Cunt. There. I said them. Did you blush? If so, you shouldn’t be reading erotic romance anyway! Get a clue Ms. Anonymous, you are sticking up for a person who insulted readers and authors alike in the very genre she says she writes in. Defending her won’t do you any good. She ranted and raved and screwed herself in the process. It’s said, it’s done.

I just read Diana Laurence’s post via Shannon, and I have to say, Karen was right. She basically said that all other erotic romance blows, apart from what she terms as Erotica With Soul, which is obviously what she writes.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but making sweeping generalisations is so not the way to make friends.

She’s an AUTHOR, why not use the opportunity to PROMOTE HER BOOKS, instead of SLAMMING everybody else’s work. The point is what blows for one, may be an amazing piece of work for another. This is all subjective.

You may agree with her comments, but it doesn’t make it right that she put herself as the standard by which all erotic romance should be judged. That’s just wrong.

There are a lot of talented erotic romance authors out there, as well as a lot of not so good ones, why not concentrate on the those.

Can you imagine somebody like Clint Eastwood, going round and publicly denouncing the very craft that has got him to where he is? To me that just plain doesn’t make any sense.

As the phrase goes, you shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you.

Wow!! What a mess! I was shock when I read thet blog (Ms Diane of course!)because, it was a great blog…honstly!..With two mayor mistakes: First you cannot go talking in general when criticising. If she read a bunch of bad books, that only proves she hasn’t develop the ability to pick a good one, she cannot go saying all the genre is crap!
Second, people cannot go around saying “every body is wrong but me”..where does that leave you?
If she is the only writer who masters the writing of erotic romance with “soul”…and nobody is droping the “crap” to get hers “souls”…She better accept it!

Rocio, very true, one man’s meat is another man’s poison, and nobody has the right to call you on anything you read, I agree, if her erotica with soul was that hot, she’d be selling more books, and concentrating on the promoting herself to those who aren’t as familiar with her work, some people have no clue.

Hi Sheryl, where have you been? Yeah, this is an argument that will run and run. She’s too stupid to realise that it’s not in her favour to call the people who read the types of books that she writes stupid. What a daft mare she is.

One more comment below, and I’ll be happy to leave you and yours to your delusions. And, I have to ask–what on earth, is, “As an author I’m familiar with recently commented” supposed to mean? An author of WHAT? That snippet makes no sense.

Ms. Laurence didn’t call YOU or anyone else PERSONALLY crack anythings. She was making a generalization, you TOOK it PERSONALLY, and changed the wording on your own, attributing it to HER, and distributed that false quote, STILL attributing it to HER, on your web blog and other areas.

You can continue to intentionally misunderstand me. It’s your choice whether or not you want to insist on being obtuse, and twist other people’s words around to suit your own purpose(s).

And the beat goes on – twisting words to suit your own purposes. Then, you delete my comments so people will only see yours. Yeah, yeah, It’s your blog and you’ll say what you want to…you should add a caveat that anyone who disagrees with you or your followers isn’t welcome – your ending paragraph [regarding this topic on your blog] is baloney.

I had posted a comment much earlier about who I am and what I do, but it, too, disappeared. Suffice it to say I am not who any of you think I am – I am merely Suzanne Adams, avid reader, who also takes offense to liars.
