I have watched all this mess from the beginning, and I have to say, as a reader and as an editor, that Ms. MacGillivray has been hammered to the cross quite long enough. Do any of you vicious, nasty persons ever think what it would be like to have a pack of salaviating wolves snapping at your heels? Are you [the authors] just jealous of her? I know who started this crap, and believe me, none of that bunch can write anything creatively–not even the grocery list. I’ve tried to stay out of this, but the gore is too deep and nasty to ignore anymore. Using Nora Roberts name isn’t cricket either. If indeed, Nora has participated in this online lynching, I’m bound to stop reading her. If she hasn’t then she needs to step forward and say so.

Actually, this is rather frightening. As an author who has a book on amazon I’m thinking that anyone can now blast a writer for no good reason and get away with, therefore bringing a great deal of sadness. But thankyou for for brining out the truth.

When this all started I did a web search and found this on a blog by DAM dated October 2007.

It was very special day for me in another way. Not only did this anthology move that much closer to hitting the shelves, I also received a notification from Romance Writers of America that Highland Press now has RWA approval, so all HP writers can enter their novels in the RITA, their award for print authors. This excited me because there are a lot of wonderful authors with novels out that should have this chance to have their novels considered for this honour[sic].

In an interview/puffery piece on another site, it is said

Today I’m happy to welcome Leanne Burroughs, author and CEO of Highland Press Publishing, publisher of my American Title II finalist western historical, Seduction, coming in Spring 2008. Before Leanne answers my questions, let me introduce her.

Award winning author, Leanne Burroughs, fell in love with Scottish history while doing her husband’s genealogy. Highland Wishes is her first historical novel about Scotland’s War for Independence. When her then publisher went out of business, Leanne couldn’t bear to see the book of her heart go out of print. So, she and her husband bought the publishing company – Highland Press Publishing!

I did a half hearted corporate search in Florida, which is where the “CEO” lives, but the only Highland Press listed is inactive and has been since 1973.

No, Highland Press was never listed as Subsidy/vanity Press with RWA. It was listed as POD. When the owner spoke to them to say HP was not POD, RWA told told her unless they publisher paid large advance and did offset printing they considered the presses POD.

The stuff about the rwa is inaccurate and has been since they changed the definitions. I don’t remember them ever having a pod listing but I could be wrong.
