Thanks for the responses. I know it's nothing to count on, but I just wanted to hear that there's a glimmer of a chance. :)

Michelle, I make a living writing.

But you can't count on that happening. It's always good to have a back-up plan. Mine is nursing-I can always go back and already I pick up shifts here and there when money is tight.

The best plain is not to count on making a living writing, but to hope for it, work for it...and when it happens, dance a little, be grateful...*G* and then keep on pushing yourself. ;)

Hi Michelle, it's quite common place for authors to have jobs even when they've been writing and selling for a few years. I think the key is to have good consistent sales figures and a great backlist, unless you do a JK Rowling. Oh, unless of course you get on Oprah.

I'm planning on contributing.

This brings up an issue -- is it feasible or realistic for a person to expect to support herself as a writer? I mean, provided she actually got published, let's say with Ellora's Cave? Bottom line from writers, does anybody other than the big names make a living?

I'm not asking people to disclose salaries, but to just help me know if I need to always count on 2 jobs.
