Once people realize the billions of dollars spent on the Iraq war were "off the books", i.e., not part of the budget, they're going to be a lot more frightened.

The US will have to move toward socialism in the ensuing years. Corporations have cut back on traditional pensions over the last 20 years and employers are now freezing 401(k) matching contributions. People have lost 30-40% of their wealth in the stock market and housing crashes. Most Americans have difficulty saving money either due to low wages or not living within their means.

People who are now 60+ don't have enough time to recoup their financial losses. If our economy goes into a 10+ year stagnation like Japan's, our housing market probably won't turn around quickly either.

To make matters worse, in California, (where I live), the State is in shambles. To borrow a word from Karen, those fucktards in Sacramento can't even get it together enough to get a budget in place. The State will probably start issuing IOUs in February. Can you believe it??? The world's 7th largest economy issuing IOUs. It stretches credulity.

Think about it. The state sends IOUs to hospitals for medicare instead of money...the hospitals don't have enough money to pay for staff and supplies...they lay people off...those people apply for unemployment benefits and food stamps, (a system already swollen with the unemployed)...what do they get, IOUs??? WTF!!!!! That doesn't even take into account that medical care for all of us will be sub-standard. All those incompetents in Sacramento should be fired!

It's clear that taxes need to be raised and spending slashed, but our representatives, both federal and state, are too concerned with making sure they can get elected to another term instead of making the tough decisions the country needs.

At least President Obama doesn't seem cavalier and flip about the problems the country faces. Hopefully, reason has returned to Washington and we can slowly dig ourselves out of the hole we're in.
