I’m outraged on behalf of taxpayers, horrified for all those children, and think someone needs to be institutionalized and someone else needs to be in jail, but I am now exhausted by it all to the point of silliness. To wit:

If she can’t get her own show on TLC or Pampers and Gerber endorsements, maybe Michael Jackson would be interested in taking on her and her brood. Heck, with his support, surely she could afford to spew out a dozen more.

Also note, when looking at expense, that they keep saying “not counting cost of delivery”. My twins–though covered by insurance–wracked up a 50k bill. Multiples require a complete team of doctors and nurses for EACH baby, to handle APGAR testing, possible intubation or resuscitation, even if they don’t require it. I can EASILY see the bill for these kids entire hospital experience costing over a million dollars. And when one of my twins required NICU post birth for three days—34k.

Trust me, we haven’t even BEGUN to see the dollar totals.

I read that she ordered fertility drugs off the internet, which is a lot cheaper than through fertility clinics. Others theorized that she might have gotten ahold of some drug samples while she was employed at a fertility clinic.

I also read that she used quite a a bit of the non-welfare money to have plastic surgery, instead of using the money for the kids, or to repay her parents (do “enabled” children ever repay their parents?)

And paps took photos of her recently purchasing what appeared to be video game/s. She was spending money on non-essentials while pleaing for donations! And she appeared to be away from her 6 kids that aren’t in the hospital.

Oh, and I also read a report about the dr implanting another women with multiples — she’s expecting four I think, and she isn’t insured either!

Those poor kids should be placed with parents that are mentally capable of taking better care of them, and allow Octomom visitation. And the dr should be heavily fined, and his license taken away.

I personally think the doctor should pay child support, just like if he was the guy who knocked her up. He was obviously the one in control of the situation and he chose this road to lead her down.

I wonder what effect this doctor’s “unique” procedure style has on the children themselves. And…could it be linked to the birth defects in this woman’s children.

Man, I so hope not, because that really puts the other eight children further behind the 8-ball when it comes to the possibility of having on-going health issues. Poor babies.

Lorraine…the average cost per day in the NICU is around $2k. That’s $16k per day for those kids. You’re referring to what Medicare will reimburse the hospital, not the actual costs of the care. Because she’s unemployed, taxpayers are going to be on the hook for the TOTAL cost…the hospital is not a charity organization. It will charge the people who CAN pay more or find other ways to bill the state.

Emmy, I think this girl is far beyond hugs being any help at all. :-\

I’ve read in articles where her mother was quoted as saying she had a desire to have a lot of kids even when she was young, to an abnormal extent. She needs extensive therapy, not fertility treatments.

@Emmy– No doubt the cost to the taxpayers over the lifespan of these kids will total in the millions. However, the cost I was referring to concerned only their hospitalization at birth. From the Los Angeles Times this morning:

Using the 2007 average as a low estimate, Kaiser would be eligible for a combined $9,584 per day in Medi-Cal reimbursement. The babies, who are 16 days old, have already racked up a conservative $153,344 in Medi-Cal costs, not including their delivery. Kaiser doctors have said they will remain hospitalized for seven to 12 weeks. If they stay for seven weeks, the cost would be $469,616. Very sad. The state of CA should sue that doctor for damages.

I’m a mother of two, and I’ve had many sleepless nights rocking ONE baby. No single person could care for this many infants. No sane person would attempt it.
