They argue that they do not have the staff to police the site, and basically leave it up to the community to do the policing. But then getting them to act on those reports.. can be fun… sigh

   8 I went to do the routine to report his listings, but it seems all your efforts have already paid off. I didn’t click on all of them, but did on most and apparently the listings are no longer working. Going back to the link just now showed that there were NO listings at all. So good job, everyone.

    13 I love that out of all of the hundreds of ebook cds he has sold, only ONE person lodged a negative complaint that they were scanned books. Surely the buyers don’t think this is legit? Sad.

He’s creating copies of his copies. Thieving bastard. Surely the buyers don’t think this is legit? Sad. I’m pretty sure these people don’t give a shit whether the ebooks are illegal or not. Pretty sure they just want a ‘bargain’. Which is what 550 ER books for under $10 would represent. He Elaine, don’t apologise, he had tons of ebooks up for sale, and since we started lodging the complaints, his listings have been taken down, so I think the peeps at Ebay took his page down, which is a result for us methinks.

    17 I’m afraid for ebay this is par for the course, but yes, the listings are gone. I bought new HC D&D books. The seller offered me three CDs worth of D&D books afterwards. I reported him to Wizards of the Coast, Ebay, and one of the other smaller publishers. Only the smaller publisher replied and thanked me for the report. Ebay is becoming a well-known haven for scammers and thieves.

    24 Okay, I think I just found another pirate on ebay. Same volume of ebooks with a disclaimer to the ebay staff that the person is authorized to sell the items. Person also has what they call a Nora Roberts/J D Robb Ultimate collection with over 180 books in ebook form. Hmmm, wonder if Nora and her pubs authorized that? Me thinks not. LOL Sellers name is getreadybid I’d put in a linky, but I don’t know how to with just a hyperlink. Sigh

    29 I went back and did more searching of the ebook category. From what I gather, that whole blurb about having the “right of resale” is legitimate when it comes to one of those get rich quick, work from home schemes. You purchase a CD with hundreds to thousands of self help articles on it, and then resell it to others. So it seems that a few slicksters have decided to try the same philosophy with fiction books. They slap on the happy crappy tag line to try and fly under Ebay’s radar. I have the feeling these two individuals aren’t the only ones who will try this, so I’m going to check Ebay every day. You have to figure that some of the purchasers didn’t buy for their love of a good book, but to copy and sell for themselves. Thanks mucho, Karen, for the alert, and if we keep vigilant, maybe we can make this stop entirely before it morphs into something that can’t be controlled.

    34 I am going to venture to say that Ms Roberts’ representatives have not been idle on this front from the beginning, Mireya. The thing is, pirates are individuals, not a borg-like entity. Stopping one or a bunch by scaring or banning them won’t stop a few hundred more from popping up elsewhere (or in that same place). What is essential is to educate the consumers on the fact that they are buying stolen goods when they buy from pirates. If there’s no market, there’ll be no pleddlers.

    35 @AztecLady: No, I am aware of that. It would be like trying to stop illegal peddlers from selling counterfeits in the streets of New York City. In this case however, the entity that should be pressured is eBay. They are facilitators.
