@AztecLady: No, I am aware of that. It would be like trying to stop illegal peddlers from selling counterfeits in the streets of New York City. In this case however, the entity that should be pressured is eBay. They are facilitators.

I am going to venture to say that Ms Roberts’ representatives have not been idle on this front from the beginning, Mireya.

The thing is, pirates are individuals, not a borg-like entity. Stopping one or a bunch by scaring or banning them won’t stop a few hundred more from popping up elsewhere (or in that same place).

What is essential is to educate the consumers on the fact that they are buying stolen goods when they buy from pirates. If there’s no market, there’ll be no pleddlers.

I went back and did more searching of the ebook category. From what I gather, that whole blurb about having the “right of resale” is legitimate when it comes to one of those get rich quick, work from home schemes.

You purchase a CD with hundreds to thousands of self help articles on it, and then resell it to others.

So it seems that a few slicksters have decided to try the same philosophy with fiction books. They slap on the happy crappy tag line to try and fly under Ebay’s radar.

I have the feeling these two individuals aren’t the only ones who will try this, so I’m going to check Ebay every day. You have to figure that some of the purchasers didn’t buy for their love of a good book, but to copy and sell for themselves.

Thanks mucho, Karen, for the alert, and if we keep vigilant, maybe we can make this stop entirely before it morphs into something that can’t be controlled.

As he is claiming resale rights, he’s not just violating copyright, he is also outright lying. No author or publisher gives resale rights on ebooks away.
