His movies brought me so much joy and I will dearly miss him. And, Myra, your friend's comment is spot on. It's rare to find a man that women consider "macho" who could move like he did.

I always wanted to be "Baby" in the lake scene. Sigh.

I'm in mourning. I will be recording all my shows tonight and having a marathon.

Dirty Dancing was such a staple of my childhood. I was about five when it came out, so I literally grew up watching it. I remember being very sad when his career started to decline a little, because he was such a great actor, and I felt that he was being victimized by Hollywood for aging (something they have *really* got to get over). In my opinion he wasn't getting older- he was aging like a good whiskey.

RIP, sweet prince.

My mom died of cancer at 58, almost the same age as Patrick. I'm sad about the loss of Patrick and it also reminds me of losing my mother. Both bring tears to my eyes. Both make me want to shake my fist at fate taking such young, wonderful people. I guess God needed a couple more angels.

I have a neighbor who trained at the Joffrey. He worked with Swazye's mother as well as Swaye and although he is gay, he paid Swayze the highest compliment I think he knows how to give a straight man who dances: "He dances like one of us."
I notice Paul has a black wreath on his door this morning. He, himself, is dying from AIDS-related problems.

I will always remember Swayze from the tv movie North and South. He was the epitome of a Southern gentlemen in that. Ironic that both he and the man with whom he was vying for the attention of the heroine (David Carradine) and now gone within months of one another.

And how could we forget him in Red Dawn, Roadhouse, and Ghost.

He will be truly missed. His Dirty Dancing legacy alone will put him in the Hall of Fame.

I was gutted when I woke up to this news this morning. Of course I dug out my Dirty Dancing cd and have been listening to it ever since.

We sure are losing celebrities young these days.

An actor to look up to. One that seemed humble, and never let fame ruin who he was.

This. He was one of those rare actors who didn't seem to let Hollywood take over. He always seemed like just the nicest guy, no one ever had a bad thing to say about him that I can recall. I mean, god, in a town where people are marrying and divorcing every five seconds, he was married to the same woman he met when he was 19 years old, right up until yesterday. That's amazing.

My heart goes out to all of his family, but his poor wife in particular. :(
