Okay, finished it in one sitting. LOL I liked the heroine a lot. The hero was so unusual, more than the typical damaged guy. At times he reminded me of someone who might have mild autism. I wonder if that's what the author was going for. If so, bravo! Very interesting book--goes on my keeper shelf. Thanks, Karen!

I'm so glad you liked this. I have it in my TBR. I love practical, mature characters and am looking forward to reading it even more now. I'll have to move it to the top of the pile.

Thanks for the great review.

Many thanks Karen, this book has been one that caught my interest, but was hesitating over, as I too am not a hysterical reader.
But I think I am now swayed to pick this one up.

I wanted to love this, but I somehow didn't connect. I liked it, but it just wasn't the fantastic read I wanted it to be. Don't know if it was the wrong book at the time and whether I'd like it better on a re-read, but it left me curiously less than satisfied, even though it seemed very right in the portrayal of his condition.

@KristieJ, Lol, I think that Ian was definitely your kind of hero!

@Las, Now you see, I didn't ever feel the pity for Beth that I did for Ian, probably because he had actually been incarcerated in the asylum. She'd had a hard life, but I felt that her experieneces had made her a much stronger, practical person, who wanted to love and be loved, because she knew how good it could be.

Perfect timing, I just finished this book yesterday. I really, really wanted to like this book. It's the first I've read from this author and I will definitely check out her other books.

I actually agree with most of your points. I just couldn't shake the feeling that Ian didn't have to capacity to make such a huge decision as getting married (that scene where he's so distracted by the ring while he was bathing freaked me out so much that I couldn't get past it), and that Beth was one of those woman who needs to be taking care of someone to be loved. Overall I just felt so sad for both of them. Sad for Ian for all the obvious reasons, and sad for Beth, who I loved so much, because she was with someone who couldn't join her in her joking and chatter.

Wonderfully written, and if this wasn't labeled a romance I'd like it a lot more. Even with the HEA the book was too much of a downer for me to consider it an enjoyable romance.
