This was in response to an interviewer asking him if he’d ever dated black women.

Here’s an excerpt from the report over at Salon: (I got the link via Monica Jackson’s blog)

John Mayer has accomplished the impressive feat of making himself look like an even bigger douchebag than before. No, wait — make that “an even bigger douchebag who also hates black women.” The soulful crooner and notorious cad recently sat down with Playboy for a candid interview. So candid, in fact, that it seems like he thought because the interview was for a dirty magazine, his reckless ramblings would evade the mainstream media. It’s like he forgot the Internet exists.

At one point in the meandering conversation, he proclaims, “Black people love me.” I would say that it’s at this point that things go south — only things are quickly headed in that direction straight from the get-go. He continues: “Someone asked me the other day, ‘What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?’ And by the way, it’s sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass.” I think that’s meant as an irreverent joke; he should see how that goes over at a comedy club. Also: I’d love to see him try to use his “hood pass” now.

Then the interviewer asks him whether he’s dated many black women — and, if you haven’t already, it’s time to cue the sound of a record screeching to a halt: “My dick is sort of like a white supremacist,” he says. “I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock. I’m going to start dating separately from my dick.”

To recap: Within the span of just a few sentences, Mayer unloaded the N-word and likened his penis to a “white supremacist” along the lines of David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.

Wow, talk about how not to win friends and influence people. How could he be so reckless, especially when he’s in an industry filled with black women? Was this a lame attempt to generate a shitload of publicity? He got what he wanted if so.

I really don’t care that he doesn’t date black women, but why use racist language to try to make his point?

Oh well, I guess it’s best to know how he really feels, this way, black female singers will know to avoid him in future.

What an absolute cockmonkey.

He comes across as attention whoring and enjoying the controversy.

  • I loved Holly Robinson Peete’s response to this mess. At first, she only heard Meyer has complimented her, and she said to E! that she felt “flattered”. She came under intense criticism for that.

Later, she made a full statement which includes this perfect summation:

That anyone would think that I would be so giddy about this young man’s compliment that I would compromise my integrity as an African American woman is the most disturbing part for me. Clearly, after I understood how John Mayer’s comments were bookended by racial insensitivities and this racially charged, rambling diatribe that denigrated black women, it became a whole other animal.

This guy is a tool, simple as that.

  • I’m going to ditto what Roslyn said.

    No loss.

Now this is kinda shallow, but it must be said. Those pics? Those are enough to inspire nightmares.

  • I think his stupidity calls for a lobotomy and a penilectomy. Definitely don’t want to be adding to the gene pool with him!

  • I can understand if John is not attracted to a certain type of woman, but that statement shows how ignorant and stupid he is. He thinks he was being funny and there will be no backlash for his comments because of who he is.

Did you also notice how he made fun of Jessica Simpson’s love making techniques. What a really classy asshole of a guy.

The interviewer actually asked him if black women throw themselves at him. He didn’t answer the question. Instead he talked about HIS lack of receptivity and attraction to black women. It was a strange question and an equally peculiar “answer”. Either black women throw themselves at him or they don’t. I’m inclined to believe that very few if any do. Why WOULD they?Altogether it was a very evasive response from an out of control attention whore..

  • John Mayer knew exactly what sort of reaction his comments were going to get. Heck, I don’t even read Playboy and I’ve seen extracts from that interview. Mayer wanted publicity, and he was prepared to get it at the expense of his ex-girlfriends and black women everywhere.

I’m probably going to regret this, but I’m going to swim against the tide here and say that I don’t think he’s a racist. Pretentious tool? Yes. Fame whore? Yes. Foolish, foolish, young man? Yes. Racist? Not so much.

In the article he says that he has “a Benetton heart” but a “David Duke cock”, which I read as his very pretentious way of saying that he had no intellectual or emotional issues with race, but it was the whitey McWhite blondes who turned him on. Anyone who follows celebrity gossip would already know this just from his very public dating history (Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Anniston, etc). Having “a type” you are attracted to is not racist. Plenty of famous black musicians are up front about the fact that they will only date black women, but that doesn’t get them called out as racists. Because they’re not racists, they just have a preference for what turns them on.

Mayer’s problem is not that he’s a racist, it’s that he’s disappeared so far up his own arsehole with introspection that he doesn’t have a clear understanding that just because he feels all post-modernist about race doesn’t mean everybody else does. Now he knows. Big time.

Having a highly specific sexual preference doesn’t make you a racist. Being an self-pretentious fool doesn’t make you a racist. Hating or fearing people of other races makes you a racist, and I haven’t seen any evidence from Mayer of either of those things.

David Duke is a White Nationalist, the former Grand Wizard for the KKK, he preaches white separatism and racial segregation and makes no apologies for it and you don’t see Mayer’s comparison as racist in any way???

I’ve never like his music, never thought he was attractive and never understood what all those famous, beautiful women saw in him. What he said is obnoxious and disgusting and it makes him look like a stupid fuck.

I’m happy that I’ve never contributed to his coffers in any way.

Theo, I know who David Duke is. Comparing his penis to DD was an incredibly stupid and insensitive thing for Mayer to say. That doesn’t mean he is a racist, it just means that he’s incredibly stupid and insensitive.

Flip it around: If DD told an interviewer “I like black people just fine and think they are just the same as white people”, would you just accept he was no longer a racist – based on that one comment? Or would you look at all the other things he’s doing in his life and decide that if he still acts like a racist, then he probably still is one – no matter that he mouthed those politically correct words?

Despite living much of the last few years in the media spotlight, JM has no history of ever doing or saying anything that could be construed as racist – except for this one comment in one interview. He regularly works with people of all races – in a genre that is in fact dominated by African Americans – and yet, as far as I am aware, even with this media firestorm, no one has come out with a single anecdote where he has done or said anything racist. So why is everyone so quick to brand him a racist on the basis of a single act of stupidity? When did foot-in-the-mouth become a hanging offense?

  • Sorry, eggs, but in this instance, I think his inability to censor his *filled mouth allows his real thoughts to come out time and again. If he doesn’t want to be branded a racist, he shouldn’t align himself with one and since David Duke is a well known racist, I believe Mayer was giving us all an exact idea of what he really is. Just because he works regularly in a genre dominated by African Americans/Blacks doesn’t mean a damn thing. Many people in this world work with a variety of nationalities/races. Doesn’t mean they like them. Most though have some filter mechanism to keep from spewing their dislike or racist attitude. In this case, Mayer just proved what kind of an idiot he is. And in my book, he’s racist. And I am not alone.

  • Eric Clapton works in a genre dominated by blacks as well and we all know what he said. John Rocker was a baseball player a field dominated by minorities of all sorts, and we all know what he said. Frankly I’m not interested in parsing what the man meant by what he said. Anytime you compare yourself to David Duke, especially when no one asked you one goddamned thing about your preferences you are in fact, a racist. It was clear, at least to me, that Mayer has been holding those comments for quite some time. No one asked him if he found black women attractive. He was asked if they threw themselves at him. His response is a total non sequitur.

  • He actually, in a case of TMI, did the opposite of making fun of Jessica Simpson’s sexual technique. He said she was sexual napalm, but meant it in a good way. Crazy, but true — said she was good that you’d do anything to be with her.

He said Jennifer Aniston wasn’t on Twitter because she wanted to go back to her glory days of 1998. She’s the one who should be angry of his ex girlfriends.

So what is that thing he is wearing called? And why is it always in chartreuse? Or is there only one in existence and dickish guys pass it around?

  • I read as his very pretentious way of saying that he had no intellectual or emotional issues with race, but it was the whitey McWhite blondes who turned him on.

That may be what you read, but that’s not what the man said. If he’d simply said he didn’t find black women attractive, big woo, but that’s not what he said. He was asked if black women threw themselves at him, no one asked if he were attracted to black women. He then responded, that he’d never availed himself of that. Then, as if to prove that he did in fact find black women attractive, he named several that he did find attractive. He even pontificated at length about Kerry Washington being “white girl crazy” whatever the fuck that means. And made some crude comments about her sucking a man’s dick. (Interestingly enough he never said anything even remotely as crude about the WHITE women who presumably have sucked his dick. Apparently he’s never so much as sent Kerry Washington a tweet, yet he felt free to talk out from under her clothes. What’s that if not white supremacy and misogyny?)

So the comments about his white supremacist cock, accompanied by a diatribe about the black women he did find attractive was not simply a man expressing a preference for blondes.

Since no one’s answered this yet, that body thong he’s got on looks exactly like the one Borat wore. I think he wore it as a prank since he is apparently a puerile moran.
