Hi Karen, Love the new site! I haven’t commented before but I am a regular lurker.

I wasn’t sure where to leave this comment about The American Version of Dorothy Koomson’s My Best Friend’s Girl so I thought I’d put it here.

I noticed it is about to be released in America with an awful cover that doesn’t do the story justice. What is most interesting, I think, is that the cover blurb from the publisher makes a race issue when there isn’t really one.

Also, it has been paired with books about interracial romances on Amazon.com. It’s as if because the main character is black, there is nothing else to the story.

Thought I’d bring it up because I know this is a subject quite close to your heart. Mine, too! ; )What do you think?

    Danke x

Okay, so now i am the butt of your joke. I take it then karen you’re another one who has not read my book yet? Question. Why is it you have chosen to be foul mouth about me in public? Can’t you do this in private like it was later stated in one the critiques comments had suggested. I will say this about your “so Called Mrs. Giggles” comments. I think you ought to grow up and stop acting like a child, if you carry on like this there will be a law suit against you. I am one who does take critisim very well but having a person like yourself publicly trying to ridicule me is another thing entirely. Be sure to NOTE THIS YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM MY LAWYER IF YOU GO ANY FURTHER WITH THIS NONE SENSE.

Be sure to NOTE THIS YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM MY LAWYER IF YOU GO ANY FURTHER WITH THIS NONE SENSE.

    Oh good grief.

Lisa, good luck. Karen lives in the UK. You’re not going to find too many lawyers willing to even attempt anything on ** SOMEBODY in Britian for having an opinion.

A quick word of advice-and this isn’t coming from a reviewer, a bloghopper, a flunkie. It’s coming from an author.

Comments like yours don’t do anything but make you look like an ass.

Sorry. Plain and simple. You set yourself up for ridicule with comments like that.

And when you write a book and publish it, it’s possible its going to get commentary. Commentary, good or bad, sells books. We like it when books sell. That is how we make our money. One thing that will COST a writer sales, though, is lashing out at a reader over an opinion.

My two cents-naturally, if you decide that a lawyer will be contacting me, be sure to let me know. I’ll give you the email addy of my legal representative-they can duke out.

    Edited–long day.

I am one who does take critisim very well

    You really don’t.

but having a person like yourself publicly trying to ridicule me is another thing entirely.

‘Like yourself’? What does that mean, pray? Like a potential customer? Like a reader? Who is exactly qualified to offer ‘critisim’ (what we in the writing business sometimes call ‘criticism’)? At what lofty point is someone entitled to tell you that you can’t spell, tell a coherent story, act like an adult, or behave graciously towards those genuinely trying to help you improve your execrable writing?

How about me, honey? I’ve got an Arts degree with an English major, a number of non-fiction academic publication credits, several writing contracts, a hundred or so critical reviews, and eight or so years of amateur editing experience for pros and fanfiction writers under my belt – am I entitled to tell you all that? Because I am telling you that. I’m also telling you the chances of you improving as a writer with that shitty attitude of yours are exactly zero.

Now sic your internet lawyer on me, chica, although I think you might find that being butthurt by the intarwebs doesn’t constitute a tort recognised by any court other than those in La La land.

I’m no sure if this is the right place to put this, but I noticed All Jacked Up on your reading list and was curious if there was going to be a review. I started the book and liked some of it but other elements bothered me too much and I didn’t finish. I just wondered if I was being overly sensitive and if the end of the book would redeem it.

Anyway, I enjoy reading your reviews and entries in general and even if you do not review it I look forward to reading your next regardless.

Hi Sarah, I started All Jacked Up, but didn’t finish it. I think I probably wasn’t in a good enough mood for reading, because I actually liked the hero and the heroine.

    Karen,

Thank you for responding! I’m not ashamed to admit, I did a little squee when I saw that you had replied!

I liked the heroine and loved that she read romance novels, but hated that one of the hero’s standard insults to her was to call her an egghead, or something else (the book is not with me anymore so I can’t check) similar to that. I just can’t stand when someones idea of an insult is to… make fun of another’s superior intelligence? It just rubbed me to absolute wrong way, and since I remember him doing it often (although its entirely possible my annoyance made it seem more prominent) it just annoyed me immensely.

But when I first started reading romance novels, I didn’t like reading them about tall people either, so I’m a bit… weird and overly picky sometimes.

Hi Sarah, I think being called an Egghead isn’t so bad. Better than filty whore eh? I read an HP Presents book a couple of weeks ago, where the hero kept calling the heroine a whore. Needless to say, the book nearly ended up in the toilet
