Yesterday, the Tall Guy and I went to watch England v Sweden at Ewood Park, Blackburn, in the UEFA Women’s European Championships.

What an absolute waste of money. If it wasn’t for the great atmosphere created by the 25k plus travelling fans, I would have been tempted to ask for our money back!

England only needed a draw to book their semi-final spot, while Sweden had to win. England have beaten Sweden just once in 15 previous meetings, which of course didn’t bode well for us.

An early goal by Anna Sjostrom ended England’s Euro dream as Hope Powell’s team, despite controlling the vast majority of possession, failed to get the result they needed to clinch a place in the Women’s Euro 2005 semi-finals.

It’s not being sexist to say that women are leaps and bounds, and a couple more kangaroo-sized leaps, behind the men, but I expected much better than what we got.

It was a relief to get home and put the match behind us.
