What the f*ck? We have had days of rhetoric from US officials about how they think that the British resilience is remarkable, and how important it is for the people of London to show that this atrocity will not stop them from continuing to live their lives as normal, so what the hell kind of message does this send out?

I don’t recall any such directive being issued here in England in the aftermath of 9/11.

Was I the only one who watched President Bush give an impassioned speech at Gleneagles about the bravery of Brits?

It seems a little contradictory seeing as there are thousands of US service people still in Iraq. Of all nations, I would have thought that the Americans would have understood the need to show solidarity in the face of terrorism.

Had this been France, I wouldn’t have been surprised in the least, we all know that they are fence sitters of the worst sort, but the Americans? I’m absolutely staggered.

Apparently the US Embassy are currently reviewing the decision to ban all American servicemen and women from entering London, I should think so too.

I was stunned too, Karen. I just don’t understand it.

Maybe they think the British are more expendable than the Americans – I hope not.

Anyway, someone could lob a bomb over the fence.

I think they are doing this for the safety of those in England, especially London. US military members draw attention. They may draw unwanted terrorist attention, leading to another attack. This is pure speculation on my part. But I know in the past, in plane hi-jackings, US servicemen and women became targets, and in the middle east have been the reason an attack took place.

I understand your disdain to this statement. I think it is shameful for the government to make such a statement. Everyone knows that London is one of the most secure cities in the world, if not the most secure. And at a time when the free world has seen that we still need to band together and be one nation of freedom and peace.

I can tell you truthfully, and I don’t care what any other American says, there are times when I am embarrassed to be an American. This is a great country, but sometimes we do stupid things.

Please don’t judge all Americans by what our president says. PLEASE. My husband is retired military and gets so furious with Bush, the Lesser, that I sometimes think he’s going to have another heart attack. I must admit Scott has a good point about US military drawing fire but I seriously doubt that’s the reason for the stupid directive about entering London.

The decisions made over the years by our current president makes it very tempting to never vote again. Well, this, and the “ignoring the common people’s wishes” philosophy that plagues both the Democrat and Republican parties.

its kinda weird, that US, a democratic country, gives out an order, where everyone else, at least some, find it absurd.

haha, ive not been here in a loong time..

Ugh, please Karen, don’t even get me started on George Bush. What a mockery he’s made of us and the system.

And what’s terrifying to me is that he may get to appoint not one but two Supreme Court Justices during his remaining term. Blach.

I love my country but the others picked a shitty president. Of course, it seems that no one wants to own up to voting for him now but SOMEONE must have 🙁

Karen, unfortunately it seems to be the way the US administration works these days. We’ve been next door neighbors and always had a welcome to my house kind of relationship. Starting in 2007 we are going to have to have passports in order to visit the US. Nutty, nutty, nutty. I had to laugh when I read that Bush gave an audience to Bono sooner that he did our PM. Of course, I loathe our PM so I wouldn’t want to see him either.

He, he, he he. Just out of curiosity, with him being such a popular guy these days, are you still in the menage with Mr. Cruise?

Well there must be some people that voted for him. I know that I was one of many that I know that had never voted for a Democrat before (not necessarily Republican either), yet found ourselves pulling the lever for Kerry back in November.

BTW, as a rather nice gesture, at the baseball All-Star Game this evening in Detroit, they had a moment of silence for the victims of the bombings in London, then had a horn quartet play “God Save the Queen”.

It was very thoughtful of the game organisers to think of the UK in that way.

I think re-electing Dubya was the worst mistake the US made. I feel that many people are regretting their choice and it’s only been about 8 months since he got in!

Dawn, it was just plain ridiculous!

Scott, I understand their motivations, but I cannot agree with their actions, it was just plain wrong of them!

Linda, it seems to me that lots of things are done within the Bush administration that don’t make sense.

Jenn, no we needn’t, but somebody voted for him!

Des, I hear people saying the same stuff all the time, but people obviously voted for him, he won by a good majority, having said that, I wasn’t convinced by Kerry’s campaign anyway.

Hi Somethingsicantsay, where have you been lately?

Angie, who the hell voted then? The popular opinion is that he got the bible belt votes?

But most people know who Bono is Kristie, I try to keep abreast of world politics, but I couldn’t tell you who your PM is!! So it doesn’t surprise me in the least!

Kristie, I desperately need to find a replacement for TC, he’s seriously giving me the creeps now, he might make me convert to scientology, as if there aren’t enough fucked up religions in this world, lol

Hey Scott, that was really thoughtful! As for Bush, I bet the people who did vote for him are denying any such thing now!

Dawn, LOL!! I always think of him as Dubya, ever since his post 9/11 speech where he called the terrorists ‘folks’, I mean, come on!
It makes me grateful that we at least have somebody who can speak properly in TB.

What? You didn’t know what a total wanker he was? I’m praying someone worth voting for runs in ’08.
I’m proud to say I voted AGAINST the shrub all three times; Tx Govenorship and both presedential elections.
(My DH still apollogises for not voting for Ann Richards when he had the chance…I wish she would run for prez.)

I’m Maven, and I’m the adult child of Republicans…
Yes, I freely admit that my parents and in-laws are die hard republicans and voted for the shrub. I can only do so much…I’m only one vote (and DH, when I can brow beat him in the right direction.)
