Oooh, I wonder what got up Ann Vremont’s nose then? She certainly seems to have a beef against Sarah McCarty’s fangirls. Anne has a blog post linking to a conversation that was being held on Solaine’s blog.

I found the whole conversation rather amusing, but she must have known that it was bound to piss somebody off right? Oh well, let’s hope it doesn’t get out of hand.

Hey K-rock, how’s it going? I knew there were perks to being a nobody, but didn’t realize what they were until now. No drama. Yeah me! LOL

    Hey Karen,

Maybe we should have named that other author’s name and all her wrong doings *snicker* Now THAT surely would have caused the shit to hit the fan. LOL

It’s been said in many places many times about author groups that didn’t appeal to one individual or another for whatever reason. I just don’t get people’s hostility. Move on! Write your own blog or start your own group. There are plenty places and ways to say what you want to say.

I’m on vacation. This was a bit of a shock to log onto. I don’t know Anne V at all and am at a loss where she’s coming from.

I also have not read Anne V’s comments, not do I intend to. I will say however, that I have a very active yahoo group of over 900 readers who read book sin a variety of genres. It’s a chat group which means I interact with these women daily and I have never, ever, seen one of these women post or say anything untoward. They are class acts all the way so any diatribe against them I am definitely going to say stems from a motivation other than the truth because after two years, I have a very good idea of how they comport themselves in the internet “public”.

Do they get enthusiastic about books? Definietly. And that enthusiasm is shared in the group as we are all voracious readers who spend significant dollars every month on books of all genres and are always looking for a great read. They are also highly enthusiastic about other authors. I do not now, nor ever will regard an enthusiasm for a good book or the thrill of finding a new author a bad thing. And I don’t think fans need to apologize for that enthusiasm or sharing it. Especially to an author for the simple reason all authors live for the moment when somethng they write resonates with the reader to the point that reader can’t wait to read anything else they write.

I’m really sorry this discussion has become a lash out against my fans. I sincerely hope they do as I have done and chosen not to particpate in the discussion. In my opinion, it is definitely one that needs to die a natural death before it degenerates further.

Well I can’t comment as to how Sarah’s fans comport them in the internet “public” but I’ve been on the receiving end on how they’ll conduct themselves in private. I was a member of a chat loop and one day people were discussing one of Sarah’s books. I commented about how I hadn’t particularly cared for the book. It wasn’t a slam against Sarah personally or her writing overall. I just had not connected with the characters and didn’t feel like it was my cup of tea.

Three of the people on the loop, who were obviously very enthusiastic fans, took this personally. They emailed me privately and not very nicely told me what they thought of my opinion. I left that loop and haven’t even thought about reading another of Sarah’s books. I’m on a lot of author and book loops and have never experienced that sort of negativity and nastiness anywhere else.

I’m a Sarah fangirl, and I have to say I don’t recall seeing any of them behaving particularly bad… erm, actually I can think of at least one, but her sin wasn’t rabidly defending Sarah’s books or anything, she was just a pleb, and I believe she managed to piss off a few other people on other loops too.

Oh I meant to say, it’s not that likely I’d ever see any bad behaviour because I only have two loops that I receive mail from.

Cripes, Samantha. Did you bring that to Sarah’s attention? That’s horrible, and I know that had she known the incident occurred, she would have put a stop to that and talked to the individuals involved.

And as I am also a moderator on Sarah’s group, had I seen that behavior I would have put a stop to that… if it happened there. did it happen there? Yikes!

Now I hope this doesn’t become a bashing against Ann because she pointed out that she was annoyed by an activity she saw in a loop, cuz then I’d have to get rabid (jk…really). Let’s be able to distinguish between criticism of person’s action and criticsm of a person.

I’m a HUGE Sarah fan, but I can still see how the activities of some annoying fans can turn a person off. It’d never turn me off because I love Sarah and her work, and because I’ve never experienced this from any of her fans. I’ve never seen this activity on her loop, but I stay away from many loops for a reason.

However the people who are coming out, here, at CR and at Let’s Gab who say they’ve had some sort of negative interaction with one of Sarah’s fan’s being hostile — now those accounts are just speaking for themselves.

Ok I’m at a loss now. Sarah says she won’t be reading Ann V’s comments so how can she possibly be replying to them. She’s at a loss because she hasn’t read the comments, and I’m sorry but she has her head in the sand about some of her fans. By not coming out and saying she doesn’t condone it, readers presume she does…and that’s what is turning a lot of us off.

Actually Anne, I do read and quite enjoy (most of) Sarah’s books. I’m also a member of her group as you know *s* BUT as a member of her group I also know that to say something that might be perceived as negative by some of the other members (for example, say a less than 5 star amazon book review *yes this happened…the review was a 4/5* isn’t a bad review for crap sake *when people were all OMG how can that person NOT love this book*)is to invite harassment upon myself. I keep those comments to myself as it isn’t worth the hassle.

I am on the internet for my relaxing time and enjoyment and I’ve learned to use my censor button often and keep many comments to myself *s*. It isn’t worth the work to defend them sometimes.
