Me and TTG spent it apart. I had a business meeting up in the North East, and he had a meeting down south.
I treated myself though and booked a luxurious hotel, which was heavenly. It helped that I could claim the tax back, on the hotel. (g)
TTG sent me some tulips at the hotel to mark the day. They were really lovely, but I didn’t need them, flowers just aren’t my thing, and never have been. I do like tulips though, if I was a flowers girl, they would be my flower of choice.
Whilst I was luxuriating in a bubble-filled bath tub, TTG was having dinner with a work colleague, and because it was Valentine’s day, the waiter assumed they were gay. He even insisted on taking a photograph of the happy couple. Too funny. I can imagine how much The Tall Guy played on this. He can camp it up with the best of them if he puts his mind to it. His campness always reminds me of Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cops though, over the top, but funny as hell.
It’s the first time in a long time time (if ever) we’ve spent Valentine apart, and you know what? It didn’t feel strange at all. Not that I really thought it would, we’ve both always kind of resented the commercial side of Valentine’s Day. I read somewhere that there are usually more fights on V day than on any other date in the calendar year. I don’t know if that’s accurate, but I bet it’s not far off the truth.
Anyway, what did you guys do? Anybody do anything wildly romantic and sickening? Anybody get a proposal?

Hubby is banned from making grand gestures that deserve an occasion of their own, on Valentine’s Day. This was a STRICT RULE when we were dating. No proposals, weddings or anniversaries…because they require separate presents and declarations of love. *lol* And now? We were happy to buy chocolates from the grocery and have dinner at the local Japanese restauarant. At least we managed to remember this year…

My husband took the day off work to spend time with me. We went out to lunch at La Mansion and talked in depth about a number of things. He listened patiently while I ranted (only occasionally revealed his amusement at the things I think about, let alone get worked up about), then he shared his stuff.

We didn’t get to do much… the DH switched over to nights late last summer and works 12 hour shifts so he wasn’t here for half the day and for some reason, he wanted to sleep a little. ;p
He bought me flowers though. I am a flower type kind of person, although I didn’t used to be. Not sure why that changed, but I do love flowers.
This doesn’t quite fall under the wildly romantic topic, however, my daughter got her first ‘real’ valentine…from a boy…and not one of the little generics that kids give out in class. This little darlin she’s known since kindergarten gave her a card he bought & then today, he drew her a picture. Told her if this kept up, me and her daddy would be having a talk with the young gentleman. She giggled. I figure at 7, we’re okay for a little while longer.

My wife and I were supposed to go out to eat, but the snow kept us in. (Though if the city had done it’s job when it was supposed to, the roads would have been clear by then!)

my hubby was at his uncle’s funeral – sad day to get buried.
I watched Hercule Poirot with my daughter – on the sofa, wrapped in flannel blankets, with chamomile tea.

We celebrate sort of Valentine Days throughout the year. Whenever we figure we need some us time we got out or spend a night away. It makes the actual V Day anti-climatic. This year my 3 little nephews were with us add my two sons and TGILW and not a single Valentine was exchanged. I did treat the little scampers with a forbidden doughnut for breakfast…does that count?

Let’s see, the day started with the hotel we were staying in still having no electricity so I had on two of just about everything and my lovely walking boots. We drove for 4 hours through an ice storm [beautiful really the trees looked like glass and if a bit of sun came through the they were silver]. Made it to our next hotel…hot water and electricity for the first time in two days – yeah! The cutie and I exchanged our cards [his to me was two adorable pigs dressed for Paris which we’ve just returned from so we had a good laugh and mine was a kiss]. I took a long hot bath and then met the cutie and his workmate we’ve been taking around with us [he’s in his 70’s and didn’t think he should drive in this weather on his own]. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and then crashed.
Two days later and we’re still trying to make it home…roads are closed and it’s looking like we’ll have to drive south for a couple hundred miles before we can make it up north and we’re still not sure if we can get up our driveway. It’s been a lovely adventure – no flowers or chocolate but I was with the cutie 🙂

We had a nice dinner at home. The Boyfriend got me white tulips (he knows I think red roses lack imagination) and a big ole’ box of Godiva chocolate.
I’m fairly low maintenance and told him he did “too much.” Which he scoffed at, but it’s true. Frankly, if he just took out the garbage without being asked I’d consider that present enough.

Didn’t do anything for VD, but wanted to see if you know that when your mouse hovers over the bloggerhacks link under recent coments, the pop-up window shows porn pics. Not that I have an objection myself, but I just didn’t think it was supposed to link to that.

Hey Anonymous, I just hovered, and noticed the porn, I’m guessing that Blogger Hacks must have had their site hacked, or they moved from their old URL and it got taken over. Anybody any idea on how to get an alternative ‘Recent Comments’ thingie?
