Can anybody actually tell what sex the above person is? I’m guessing it’s a dude, but by the looks of him, he’s on some kind of hormone replacement therapy. It seems to be working just fine too. The bastard’s got bigger tatas than I have. Sheesh.

Methinks the guy on the left could do with some sun. Seriously, I can’t even tell where his skin ends and his trousers begin. Also, check out the girl’s arm…

I’m jealous of her wax job. Nary a hair to be found anywhere.

Jesus effing Christ, this guy sure is U.G.L.Y

Seriously Changeling, could your covers suck anymore?

The entity on the cover of Sincubus was described in the blurb as him, her, it, with a question mark at the end. Since I’m a big ole freak I’ll probably buy this, cover be damned. I buy quite a few books from Changeling Press. Covers hold no allure for me so I’m not bothered by less than stellar ones. I like the boundaries pushing stories and the proofreading is excellent, too. I can’t spell or punctuate worth a damn but I expect a lot when I’m paying. That cover is unfortunate, though.

It does seem to me that Sincubus is meant to be intersexed or hermaphrodite. But in general I would be happy if all copies of Poser spontaneous combisted and we had to resort to art supplies and cameras again.

Since you’re talking covers. Can I point out how extremely phallic this is?

At least there’s a good reason for the he/she rather than it just being a fugly cover.

Anon, the Looseid cover is hilarious!

Not to be, you know, completely off-topic here, but…what did you think of Karin Slaughter’s Tryptych? I am working on a blog entry about it: loved it, why can’t more romance novels have characters as interesting and literary devices as challenging?

I nearly sprayed my computer screen…WTF was on that first cover? Horrific. I can’t seem to get the image out of my head now.

The sequel to the loose id cover is almost as good.

Holy Crap! That first one is beyond weird! That gave me quite a start right after my mid-afternoon Friday nap.

As for the chick on Shelby Morgan’s cover, I’d like to look like her.

    The rest are just scary.

    Hey Karen,
I always thought you were over reacting about covers but after those samples, I’ll have to agree amd just pray covers are a perfect amtching of the story inside it! Beacuse sometimes I think i is just like that!

Maybe I’m missing out because I’ve never bought a Changeling story. I think I may have reviewed one through RRT. Their covers, however, put me off as a consumer, big time.

As an author, I’d prefer a plain background and complementary colored letters over that.

I haven’t bought from them in yonks. I did recently read an excerpt by way of the ebooklove list from one of their authors.
I checked out the authors books and the covers were seriously very very scary. The books in question are Dragon’s Heir and Dragon’s Daughter if the links don’t work.

I showed these covers to my professor who is also my thesis advisor. He just kind of looked at me and shook his head.

Then he said, “You make fun of these covers, right? On your website, I mean?”

    Me: “Yep.”

He replied: “The cover gods are gonna get’cha.”

I kinda dig the Shelby Morgen cover. That’s the best one I’ve seen from Changeling. She looks like a Barbarian Queen ready to smash ten guys’ faces in and then have angry sex with the rest of the dudes in the bar. They’d go home crying either way.

If I remember correctly, Treva Harte mentioned in her newsletter that the phallic imagery was done on purpose.

When I first saw the cover for “Seven Year Witch”, I thought the pale guy is doing butt clenches. Maybe he’s afraid of getting kicked out of the ménage à trois.

The Treva Hart cover is disturbing because of the window. Just makes it look like an unfortunate case of hypospadias

The last guy wouldn’t be so ugly is he wasn’t cross-eyes. Definitely a paper-bagger. The rest really looks like what I used to do with my Barbies before I decided I really was too old for Barbies. Those dollies got some action in the shoebox lemme tell ya. Then again…I never said a thing.
