Apologies for the lack of post. It’s been a busy old Easter for TTG and I.
We found our house. It’s an absolutely fabulous, Five-bed house, with a huge backyard, and the double garage that The Boy wanted. We put an offer in, so fingers crossed that it’s accepted.
Went to see my nephew this weekend. He is just so damn adorable. I could just eat him up.
Two of my friends also gave birth this week. One girl and one boy. They are both absolutely adorable.
We had a visit from a school friend I hadn’t seen in seven years. She had both her babies with her, except they weren’t actually babies anymore. They were nine, and seven. Sigh. Where does the time go eh?
Anyway, talking about babies, I finally read Nora’s Born In Death last night. Fabulous as usual. I do love, love, love Eve and Roarke’s acerbic banter with each other. How cheesetastic was the ending when they were all in the hospital? Who needs Hallmark eh?
I also managed to read Anchor and Storm (see below) and actually, I enjoyed it. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but it was fairly easy for me to overlook the imperfections and concentrate on the actual story.
I also finally got round to starting Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian. I gave in after chapter two. It might have just been me, but I was bored to tears after just a few pages, I knew I wasn’t going to manage the full 704 pages anytime soon. I’ll possibly keep it for the next time I have to visit my doctor, I’m pretty sure I’m due for a smear test soon.
I finally read Dorothy Koomson’s, My Best Friend’s Girl. Shit, but that book made me cry. Very sad, but uplifting at the same time.
Whilst TTG and I were away, I also managed to read a Nicholas Sparks book, that’s been on my TBR forever and a day. The Guardian was a good way to pass a couple of hours, but it didn’t blow me away. The only writer who can head-hop worth a damn is La Nora, but even then it can get a little tiresome, (sorry Nora) thus I found myself getting a little pissed off by the time the time the heroine started figuring out that one of the men in her life was a nutjob. Sigh.
I’m off to bed now because I don’t feel all that great, but I’ll be taking Annie Solomon’s Blind Curve with me. I’ve always had an affection for physically impaired heroes and heroines, ever since I read that Sweet Valley High book, where that deaf girl goes out with that wanker high school jock, and reforms him. Regina whatshername, and Bruce Patman. Ahhh memories…
Anyway, in Blind Curve, the hero, who happens to be a cop, goes blind. That’s all I needed to know.
So, what are you guys reading?

Don’t bother going any further with The Historian – it doesn’t improve – you just end up pissed off that you wasted so much time waiting for it to get better.

hi Karen, delurking to tell you about a book I just finished reading with a “just became blind policeman” — When Darkness Falls by James Grippando. Not a Romance per se but has a “romance” segment. I liked how the blind cop was written – he was smart and savvy before, still is but can’t see and takes meds to ward off depression. Now reading “Child of her Heart” (Cheryl St John — didnt’ realize it but has a multi-racial romance). I read your blog religiously and I enjoy your frankness and plain speaking. Good luck with the House!

Good luck on the house! 🙂
I just reread Mind Game by Christine Feehan. It’s still as good as I remember it. Too bad the first book (I read out of order) was so meh I didn’t feel like reading the rest of the series anymore.

I’ve been glomming SEP with others thrown in. Read an amusing book by Lynsay Sands, Love is Blind, about a gal who is extremely near-sighted but her step-mother won’t let her wear her glasses because it makes her unattractive. It’s an historical set in England, and has a lot of humor. Oh and I read the last two books of Robin Owens’ Heart series. LOVE those. And I’m in the middle of an old Christina Dodd, Candle in the Window, which has a blind heroine.

I’m working on A Mortal Glamour by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, from Juno Books. Sucked me right in, but you do have to be ablet to tolerate the Head Hop of Doom. She does it well.

Well, THERE YOU ARE. Cripes! I’ve been wondering and wondering, and hoping the effing nutjob stalker that was here the other week hadn’t gotten to you.
I read a good romantic suspense a week or so ago, Without A Sound by Carla Cassidy. Great book. I read an ARC of Jaci Burton’s Wild, Wicked, & Wanton… talk about Sizzle. I just finished A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole and really enjoyed that. Now I’m reading Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind by Karen Kelley. I was on Amazon, using a gift card, and after all the books I wanted were in my cart, I still had money left and this one looked good. So far, so good.
Crossing my fingers for you on the house… I know you’ve been looking for a while now. I hope you get it!!!

Good luck with the house! I remember how stressful that was when hubby and I were going through that last year.
I finished reading an ebook that didn’t quite work for me so I’m switching gears and reading a couple of categories right now.

Karen, I absolutely adored Blind Curve! Nothing she’s written since has lived up to it for me, though. Dammit. I hope you’ll like it.
Good luck with the house! I think nothing is more stressful than buying a house. The waiting is awful, then writing the check – forget it! It’s like watching the next 30 years of your life go down the toilet. (Shit – that sounds depressing!) But then moving day comes and it’s all so exciting 🙂 Makes everything worthwhile!

Good luck on your house. I’m excited for you!
I just read Shelly Laurenston’s The Distressing Damsel. I really enjoyed the writing and the humor. It even had a real and exciting plot and spanned several months instead of a few days.

Just moments ago finished La Nora’s Blue Smoke which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Admittedly, The Historian ran on the slowish side, but I really liked it once I dug in.

I’ll keep everything crossed for you for the house! Good luck!
I’m reading Storm Front book 1 in the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. I keep falling asleep and I can’t tell if it’s my allergies or if I’m bored. LOL I think it’s allergies, but I can’t get out of chapter 2!!

Fantastic news about the house, K. How exciting for you. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
I’ve got The Historian to read as well. My little sis (who turned 40 last week! Ha!!!) loaned it to me, along with Orcs, The Apple and The Island, which was one of Richard & Judy’s Bookclub reads (they said it was very good). She also gave me The Time Traveller’s Wife, but I’m not ready to blow gobs of snot out my nose while sobbing just yet.
Just looked at Dorothy Koomson’s site. The book looks v interesting. I must read all these other books first before I buy any more!

Karen, the house sounds fantastic. Sending good vibes your way.
After reading the review at Bam’s I read Bridget Midway’s LOVE MY WAY. I’m in the middle of the western series ROCK CREEK SIX and I have two Shannon Stacey ebooks to read on deck.

Good luck with the house, Karen! I just bought/moved into my first home and immediately started renovations. (Not recommended) but despite not barely having a single private moment without workmen underfoot– I love it!

Karen, I really liked the historical context, but then I like historicals. I also thought Ms. Poole did a credible job of creating the conflict of Emma being in love with two men. Although I think the story tried too hard to convice us that Emma’s love for Edgar was more romantic than it was. I do believe she loved Edgar I just think it was a more paternal love than romantic one.
One of my problems with it was Angus getting over his anger and jealousy so easily. Just didn’t seem plausible that overnight he’d “get” it. Also the (SPOILER ALERT) pat way Edgar presents Angus’ old estate and title upon his death. Why wait?
An okay read with a premise I’d like to see expanded on. I don’t believe we (in present history) have a market on finding a way to resolve our relationships and conflicts. I think people throughout history figured out ways to live, sometimes with subterfuge and secrets, and did what they had to so they could preserve wealth, titles, etc. This book could have explored this a bit more.
Yikes, sorry I got so long winded.
