Three Podium Finishes In His First Three Grandprix!!
Monday, April 16, 2007Posted in: Lewis Hamilton Formula 1 Motor racing
TTG and I watched the Bahrain Grandprix yesterday, and I must say, I was very impressed with young Mr Hamilton. He finished second to Felipe Massa, and is in joint first place in terms of championship points.
We got our very own Tiger Woods, woo hoo!

I’m a Kimi fan. 🙂
Young Mr. Hamilton failed to impress me when he refused to speak to the goofy Speed guy the first race. But I have to admit, his skill—so far—is backing up his ego. It’s only a matter of time before he and Alonso start out-ego-ing each other in the form of artful punts.
I still miss Senna, though. It’ll never be as good as it was during the Mansel/Senna/Proust era.

Shannon, Lewis gave an interview yesterday that explained that just before a race, he doesn’t like to speak to anyone other than his immediate team, as he wants to focus 100% on the race.
I think that having an ego is a healthy thing in F1. The men who are good losers are usually just that, losers. Look at Jensen Button, a bigger waste of space, I’ve never come across. Talk about under-achiever.
TTG and I watch videos (yes, videos, not DVD’S) of Senna in his hayday every now and again. He really was a wonderful talent.
By the way, if Mclaren had gotten the tire changes right in the middle section, Hamilton would have won the race. Did you see how much speed he burned up after his last pit stop? With his hard tires? Awesome!

F1 definitely doesn’t suffer from a lack of egos. I think it’s a combination of being the best racers on the planet combined with the most dominant nationalities, but I think they’d make great Presents heroes.
I didn’t get to see all of Bahrain because my DVR glitched. (I think it glitched for Bahrain last year, too. I wonder if it’s a blackout thing.) And I can’t believe there’s a 27-day gap until the next race.
And if you think Button’s a waste of track space, trying feeling patriotic pressure to be a Scott Speed fan.
It’s painful. *g*

I have missed watching F1. But after watching Schumacher win four in a row, I stopped watching. It’s nice to see young talent coming up and making things competitive again. Guess I need to start tuning in on Sundays.

I’ll confess that I’m not a big F1 watcher, but I’m thrilled for this guy. As far as I know, he’s the 1st Black F1 racer – let me know if I’m wrong!

Willy T. Ribbs, a black American, tested for one of the F1 teams (Brabham, I think?) in the 80’s, but he didn’t get a seat. He came back here and raced Indy cars. (Or CART cars or IRL cars or whatever the hell they were then. I think that was before Tony George screwed the pooch, so it was probably Indy.)
As far as I know, Hamilton is the first black F1 driver to get a full-time ride.

Dawn, Shannon, he’s deffo the first black F1 driver. He’s breaking all kinds of records, let’s hope he can do 4 in a row in Spain(?).
