There are some days, when I wish I hadn’t gotten out of bed. Today was one of those days. It really was.
Today, a very close family member was diagnosed with cancer.
It shocked me no end. I think I’m still numb.
The sad thing? She kept the news to herself for over two months. She was afraid to tell, and just hoped that it would go away. Well, it didn’t.
We take so many things for granted, and often think that these things wont happen to us.
This will officially be the third thing that couldn’t possibly happen to my family, that actually did happen.
If you’re a woman of any age, do yourself a favour; check your breasts as often as possible. It may just save your life.

Karen,
I’m so sorry to hear that. I lost a family member to cancer. I know the disbelief, the feeling that it can’t be happening, the numbness, the anger (which will come as soon as the numbness wears off) all of it.
And I second the opinion that all women should do breast checks and have mammograms. I’m relatively young, but last year I had a breast cancer scare. I’m fine, they say, but they want me to schedule more frequent than usual mammograms. I’m not missing a single appointment.
(And I still can’t figure out why blogger won’t recognize me, so I’m anon. Again.)

Karen, I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
The DH’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when the bratlet was a baby. She did the chemo and radiation and made a full recovery but it was a hard road.

Karen: I’m so sorry to hear this. And tragically – these things do happen to us. Cancer is a devastating disease that knows no bounds. I’m hoping and praying that it was caught in time for the member of your family.

Karen,
My sympathy – I know how you feel.
My father died of cancer, my wife died of cancer and one of my best friends is dying of cancer.
The only consolation is the huge advances in treatment and cure these days.

Oh, (((Karen))). I’m so, so sorry to hear this. I’ll be praying for you all.
I just found out yesterday that my sis Deb’s friend who’s going to be one of the bridesmaids at Deb’s wedding also has breast cancer. She’s asked me not to tell Debbie yet.
I don’t know if it’s because my SIL died from it recently, but it just seems to be everywhere!
Truly, my heart goes out to you.

Aw, honey, I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s especially touching to me that she kept the info to herself in that way we have of half-expecting things to disappear because we give them no attention.
I’m a big believer in prayer, because no matter what you believe God-wise, sending someone good thoughts, period, can work wonders. I’ll be doing that for her, and for you and your family.
Hugs,
Shelby
