Romantic Advances Is Unveiled…
Wednesday, May 30, 2007Posted in: Romantic Advances, the new place for new books
It’s official, those gals (Jane) at Dear Author and Sybil are geniuses!
Romantic Advances opens its doors today, and I can only imagine the amount of work that they put in to get it off the ground.
Basically, this is a dedicated site for upcoming romance releases, so no longer will you have to scrabble around searching for news on new books, you can just pop along to Romantic Advances, and build your TBR mountain that way!
Anyway, pop along to DA to congratulate them on a job well done!
I’m exhausted just imagining the amount of work it took to get this organised!

I think from reading it, you should perhaps put your Kathryn Falk letter on it..

I love it (hate it)…only RWA recognized publishers??? Are they kidding? Give me a break. This “qualification” changes with the wind (which is as often as RWA revises their policies and kicks out e-pubs), as for example, Triskelion is still listed and my fave publishers are not. Now, this WOULD be a great site should they ever decide to expand to showcase the majority of publishers who are NOT bequeathed wonderfulness with the RWA (a worthless organization, IMO, but that’s just my opinion). But of course, since the majority of publishers are not under the almighty blessing of an antiquated organization such as the RWA, this site is virtually worthless, since probably about 95% of all upcoming books won’t be mentioned. I can understand the limitations on staff, but give me a break…it’s like opening an Oscar website and saying, “All new movies are listed…err…but only the ones the Academy has nominated for a worthy mention…deserved or not.”

considering the amount of work the site is going to be, I understand why they had to make a cut off. I read somewhere they are now dozens of epubs that specialize in romance. That alone would make it almost impossible to keep track of without making it a full time job. Since they aren’t getting paid to do that site, I can understand why they had to limit it.

I am positively salivating over this site and I’m spreading the word. Karen you always know where the cool stuff is.
Since this is a volunteer site, I can see why they need to make a line in the sand. I’ve worked for a volunteer site like that before and it’s A LOT of work getting books put into a system.
Bravo to all those ladies!

We had to strike a balance between the usability of the site and the volunteers time associated with uploading all the information. It is quite time consuming to go out and search all the upcoming books and copy over the blurb information, get the author’s website, find the buy link and then format it all together.
95% of the books for purchase may not be listed but probably 95% of the books BEING purchased are being listed.
Give the site time. It may be that we will be able to grow with relationships with publishers and so forth and be able to be more inclusive, but since we are doing this as a labor of love, we simply do not have the ability to add everyone.
Of course, if you do not find the site useful, you can always create one that fills a void.

Even though I’m banned I would like to say that I think the site is cool beans and just tooling around for ten minutes found about ten books I KNOW I’m going to want when they come out in print.
I would dearly love to know if you bought a software package for the book lists or is it a WordPress plugin or did you do the programming in house?

This site might help more of my money escape my wallet than already does.
I don’t know whether to be pleased or not. :/
