Dear Lord, dumb as a box of rocks doesn’t quite cover it. Apparently, she won too. Her parents must be so proud…

I laughed my butt off when I saw this!

She didn’t win, although she may have come third I think!

Sigh. My local radio station was having a ball with this yesterday morning. Guess she was (or is gonna be) on the Today show answering the same question with a bit more preparation *g*.

    She came in fourth place.

Yes, she is someone we can be proud of over here in the US.

    😛

I saw this mentioned on CNN Headline this morning. That Jeannie Most person did a piece in which she asked some people on the street to identify places on a map. One guy didn’t recognize the U.S. He pointed to South America. Good God, to quote the old folks, “What the hell is our country coming to?”

Hehe, I saw this on TV and blogged about it, too. She seems to have come across well when she was asked about it afterwards. It was a tough question for a beauty pageant, I thought. The best bit of her answer is right at the end where she ties it all in to the future of our children. Gold.

I used to teach in public high school here in the US. I discovered one day that most of my students could not locate California or Texas on a map of the US! Unfreakingbelievable!

And if you want brains, beauty AND maps, then what?

    :OP

Dang. I can’t think of anything to describe that other than… dang.

The thing is, I don’t think the question was that hard, but somehow she totally failed to grasp what she was being asked.

A simple, “I don’t believe it’s true” would have been a better answer, although methinks she would have been totally screwed if somebody had asked her to point out America on a map.

The link KatO posted, the beauty queen said she only heard half of the question.

Hopefully that was just nerves doing the babbling. But poise is part of the contest, right?

Even if you spot her a bit of stage fright and not having heard the question correctly… “the Iraq”?!

Aww, give the kid a break. Can you honestly say you’ve never once in your life been so damn nervous that your mind went completely blank and even you didn’t understand what you were saying? It can happen to anybody. Most of us are lucky enough not to be on national tv at the time.

    Jane,

I’ve seen you. I think you can get by on just your brains. Or just your looks. Since you’ll probably pick brains if you had to choose, can I have some of your looks? 🙂
