Ye Bloggers of Old, Where Art Thou?

I came across this great post by CindyS, and it brought home to me, how much Romanceland is missing out by not having the likes of Maili, CrankyReader, and other absentee bloggers around.

Maili’s last blog post was in June 2006 as far as I can recall. I believe her and Will were moving to Germany or something?

Also, although JaynieR and I had a slightly acrimonious parting of ways over the Tina Engler AKA Jaid Black-married-a-convict-and-thinks-murderers-are-misunderstood, lovefest, I still think it’s a shame she’s dropped off from Blogland.

I also really miss, and worry about the girl from the blog, Baghdad Burning. Her and her family were forced to leave Iraq in April, and she’s only written two posts since then. The last post was dated October, when she was in Syria:

The first evening we arrived, exhausted, dragging suitcases behind us, morale a little bit bruised, the Kurdish family sent over their representative – a 9 year old boy missing two front teeth, holding a lopsided cake, “We’re Abu Mohammed’s house- across from you- mama says if you need anything, just ask- this is our number. Abu Dalia’s family live upstairs, this is their number. We’re all Iraqi too… Welcome to the building.”

I cried that night because for the first time in a long time, so far away from home, I felt the unity that had been stolen from us in 2003.

I really hope she’s ok.

Anyway, Cindy also mentioned Jay from Yapaway Jay, another blogger I used to frequent.

And lastly, I miss Monica (shut up Sybil!), I really do. She doesn’t post with any kind of regularity these days, and although many people (including me, may I add) didn’t always like her views, she was one of the few authors who’s blog didn’t bore me senseless, and one of the few on-line authors that I found very difficult to dislike.

Have I missed anybody out?

  • I’d wondered what happened to Maili.

I see Monica from time to time. Didn’t always agree with her either, but I do have to respect her passion.

Not that it matters, but I thought Maili went to Brussels.

    I miss her.

Maili will be back. Not that I have any inside knowledge or that I’ve communicated with her, just a hunch 😉

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if Maili has been lurking all along, but if i recall she’d become a bit weary on blogs-ville before this current absence and took a prolonged break then.

Monica has been quiet, which is so unlike her. I get the feeling there’s stuff going on in real life that’s taking precedence with her at the moment.

Tara Marie (Romance Reading Mom) hasn’t posted on her blog since mid-Nov. Her tastes in books closely matched mine, so I used to check in on her frequently to see what she was reading. Also, I liked her thoughtful responses/comments on verious blogs.

  • Blogs seem to fade in and out, more out than in. But on the upside the Mrs Giggles blog has perked up again.

  • 😉 Okay, I have it on good authority that Jaynie will be back around sooner or later. She is blogging again and she does still lurk here. She’s probably waiting for the perfect time to say hi.

  • I’m sure they’ll be back, Karen. Your blogs are too interesting to miss out for long!

  • I still read your blog Karen. I don’t read the blogs everyday any more, but I try and catch up once a week.

I have a new blog, too. Probably not as interesting as the old one 🙂

I also used to read Maili’s blog so hope she will be back soon.

  • I wouldn’t be shocked if Maili never left. I wouldn’t be shocked if Maili was still blogging. But not much shocks me these days. Sadly I wouldn’t be shocked if something bad happened either.

I decided a while ago she is really busy, getting well, getting her life together, getting a new job going… something…

As for monica, I often found it hard to not like her. She is very passionate about a subject I think needs more attention and passion. I just happen to completely dislike the negative attention thing. Of course I had no idea she was ‘gone’. We can be sure she will be back.

Fi was gone for a while and is back now. Really it is just the way of the ‘net and ‘net friendships. I still have some phile friends I have known forever and have a LJ I rarely use. But could post on it tomorrow and many would still be there.

What is really sad is the people we lose are never the ones we want too. 😉

  • I’m sad that as a relative newbie to romancelandia, I missed out on Maili’s blog. From things I’ve read, I probably would have liked her. Glad to see Jaynie’s still lurking around though, as hers was one of the first romance-related blogs I came across other than the Smart Bitches.

  • Hi Karen,

Delurking to say please don’t leave. Not that I thought you were going to. But just thought I should tell you I appreciate your blog. One can never get too many compliments right? I learned so much about the underside of e-publishing and other romancelandia stuff from your blog. I discovered Dear Author and the Smart Bitches through you. And learned probably way more than I need to about authors’ personal lives…

BTW, just a suggestion but can your coder fix the comments so it doesn’t go straight to the bottom when I click on comments? Then I have to scroll back up to read everyone’s comments. Thanks!

Hey Jaynie, good to hear from you again, and I’m glad you’re still blogging.

I hope Maili will be back soon, I do miss her.

No worries, I’m not leaving anytime soon, but it’s lovely to know that you appreciate the blog, so thanks for indulging me in my narcissism. 🙂

  • I miss Maili like crazy too and so wish she would come back. CW too 🙁

And I also followed Baghdad Burning. Her posts made me cry for her.
