OK, don’t die of shock, but I really loved this book. Not only did I really enjoy it, I didn’t have the normal issues, that I have with Mckenna’s books.

1. The hero wasn’t a total asshole
2. Apart from going skinny dipping in a pool that didn’t belong to her, the female didn’t do anything that would classify her as Too Stupid To Live… Oh shit, yes she did. *whistles*
3. The heroine was more intelligent than the average Shannon Mckenna Heroine, AKA, she wasn’t a total walk-over.
4. The Villain didn’t reduce me to incredulous laughter at his antics.
5. The actual plot wasn’t paper thin

High praise indeed. I will deffo be buying her next book. (I say that as if there was the slightest chance I wouldn’t buy her next offering, regardless of whether this book had sucked or not. There wasn’t.)

  • This story was so good. I read it in two days-The suspense kept me gripped in the story. I never had a problem in any of Shannon’s books-well other than Davy, his character was a little bland for me.

  • I didn’t mind the pool thing. I mean really she thought she could… maybe it was living on South Padre Island for a year but shit like that was so normal.

I loved it. But fuck I love all her stuff even when the heroines are TSTL.

I have avoided that last couple of McKenna books because of the IMO heavy-handed and sensationalist inclusion of sadistic sexual violence as part of the villain’s MO and/or as threats constantly hanging over the heroine. Does this book provide a break from that, or is it more of the same? I’ve been wanting to get back to McKenna, but she just seems to have veered farther and farther from everything I loved about Behind Closed Doors (and her IMO wonderful gift for novellas/short stories).

Robin, he isn’t quite as assholic as her other heroes have been, but then I tend to look for the good in her books, even when they are blatantly not there.

I have to say though, this one was strong for me, and the heroine didn’t really piss me off this time. He did do something a little assholic near the end, but prior to that he’d been a pussycat in comparison to the other male leads.

Ha, don’t we all have authors we do this with?!

I’ll probably check this one out. I’ve really been hoping for a return to the beginning with McKenna, which is ironic, because so often I think authors develop strength with more books under their belt. I don’t categorically hate a-hole heroes, and if this one is less assholic, (if that’s not a real word, it should be) . . . hmm, off to Amazon.

  • I’m a fool for her books even when stuff bugs me. This was a good one!

I have just ordered this one. I loved the first book when Seth sniffed Raine in the lift, and he sort of had justification for his assholicism. I loved it when he described his bad behaviour as a dog pissing on a rug. Oh dear god, am i turning into a rabid fan girl?
