“The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but to reveal to him, his own.”
-Benjamin Disraeli
I got a card this morning from one of my best friends, who I don’t see all that often, but when we meet up, it’s always like we were never apart.
She asked me to be Godmother to her unborn child.
I was so moved I cried for about an hour.
Friends are great aren’t they?
What’s the nicest thing a friend ever did for you? What’s the nicest thing you ever did for a friend?

Karen, that pic is adorable.
Congratulations to your friend, and to you.
Hmmmmm… nicest thing a friend ever did for me. Man, I dunno. I’ve got some wonderful friends so that’s hard to say. The DH’s my dearest friend and there’s no way I could list everything he’s done.
Most of my closest friends are online~ one of them helped me out in a bind when I was in a major bad one. One made sure I got connected to a person who had some very, very important news for me. One drove six hours to come visit me and did a baby shower for me when the baby bratlet was born. One drove like 8 hours just to meet up with me in Georgia for a day and then she drove back the other eight.
Good things I’ve done? Eh, I dunno. You’d have to ask them. I tend to remember what people have done for me more than what I’ve done for others.

Years ago my husband was in ICU for more than two weeks following two life-threatening surgeries. I spent 24 hours a day in the ICU waiting room, just to be near him. One day my friend found me at the hospital and took me out to eat. It was such a relief to be out of the hospital. I was hanging on to my sanity by a very fine thread at the time and this respite from the tension and uncertainty was just what I needed at the time. She had no idea what a lifesaver she was that day. I’ve told her since then, many times.
Twelve years later, I helped her out. She had a little card publishing business and had gotten really far behind getting out orders. She’s quite creative and paints beautiful, hand painted cards but the business end of it was getting away from her. So I went over and volunteered my time to print, batch, bill and ship for her.

You will be a great godmother. The 2 godmothers of my twin girls…I haven’t seen them since the Baptism. Sad, isn’t it? I thought they were friends. Come to think of it, one of the godfathers is AWOL too. The only godparent that comes around is my brother. Hey, am I hurt 3 out of 4 don’t care? Not really. My brother makes up for it. The girls LOVE him.
My best friend is my husband, and he does nice things for me all the time. We split the cooking aand he washes dishes. You can’t get nicer than that!!

The best thing that any friend has done for me is to tell me when I’m acting like an ass or I’m off. That’s the hardest thing for someone who cares about you to do, and I appreciate those who had the guts to do it, because sometimes it’s needed.
On the other hand, the best thing that some friends have done for me is to trust me when I tell them I’m going to do something really insane and they don’t try and stop me. : )
I don’t know what my friends would say I do for them, but I do know that I would and have given the shirt off my back to some of them.
