No not, how you read them, rather, where you buy them from.
That’s another one of the poll questions over at Let’s Gab.
I’ve listed the choice of answers below, along with my own brief comments.:)
Samhain Publishing – Yes, they know how to edit, and their covers don’t suck arseholes
Cobblestone Press – I’ve been hearing too many dodgy things about them lately, so I’m avoiding them like they got cooties.
Ellora’s Cave – Only if it’s sent to me as a freebie
Liquid Silver Books – Yes, but not for a while
Whiskey Creek Press/Torrid – Nope.
Wild Rose Press – Hmmm, never bought anything off them, and probably never will
New Concepts Publishing – Never purchased anything from them, and thanks to Madris DePasture, I never will.
Changeling Press – I’m still boycotting them. Too much cover suckage
Forbidden Publications – Who?
Awe Struck – Nope
Amber Quill – Nah, not my cuppa.
Mundania – Too many crazy arsed Literotica writers at Phaze
Cerridwen – Nope. Used to, but I rarely remember they exist these days.
Wings E-Press – Who?
Fictionwise/Ebookwise – Occasionally
Eharlequin – Occasionally, if I want something fluffy to read
Hey Anne, you included Forbidden whatsitsface, and forgot Loose-Id? What’s up with that? ๐ Also, you may want to add another option for those people who don’t read e-books.
OK, now it’s your turn, if you haven’t done so already, go and vote, and remember to vote in all the other reader polls on the sidebar too.

I know, damn it all. I’ll have to add an addendum poll right below it. PFFT.
I can’t believe I forgot Loose-ID. I mean Annie Dean! GAH!

That poll only allows you one choice (at least when I did it). I tried to pick a couple of places I buy but it just switched out my choice.

I fixed it to add a few extra options. It should be where you buy them from MOST. So, if people would please keep that in mind, I’m looking at the trends.
Thanks!!

I don’t read ebooks.
Used to read ebooks, but don’t anymore.
From multiple publishers equally.

Karen, why NOT Whiskey Creek Press/Torrid?

I buy tons from Samhain, too, and not only because I’m published by them.;) They just seem to get everything right, from editing to covers to customer service to public image.
But no matter what publisher I buy from or where I find the ebook, I always try to buy direct from the publisher’s site–the royalty earned by the author is almost always higher for direct sales from the publisher than from a retailer.

Karen, I haven’t read anything from there, but I’ve heard good things about Wild Rose Press.

LOL @ Forbidden who… *sad smile* Yeah, they’re small, and all. I love Samhain and WCP/T. I have bought from Fictionwise, Wild Rose but not ARe … Yet. I voted too.
Royalties are always going to be higher direct from the pub site rather than a retailer. The retailers take 50% right off the top, so the pub only sees half of their price and everything is divided after that. I think ARe might even be higher. It’s been a while since I looked at their cuts.

Yeah, what is going on at Cobblestone?
I have not heard much lately either way.

I like Cobblestone and found some very good authors there. Let’s hope nothing bad happens there. Sigh.
****Due to the mix-up of the ebooks poll and the fact that once there is one vote I cannot adjust the poll (blogger sucks that way) what I did was closed out the old polls and redid them into one poll where you can choose multiple answers. I hope this works for everyone now. ****

Lately I never have time to read anything other than my own books (in edits) and the stuff posted amongst my crit partners. Sigh. Luckily, my CPs are all awesome so what I do get to read is fabulous ๐
But yeah, the last few books I’ve bought have been from Samhain. They’re equally great from an author and a reader perspective, IMHO.

I’ll third that statement – what are you hearing about Cobblestone? Most of my purchases are from them lately and I’ve never had any problems of any kind.

I’m pubbed at both Samhain and Cobblestone and have had no problems whatsoever. Love them and recommend them both to read and write for.

It would appear that all is not as it appears within Cobblestone. I’ll blog about it when I can be arsed, frankly these e-pubs and their issues are annoying as hell, and even I need to take a break away from the crazies every now and then.

I buy books by author rather than publisher. My ebook consumption is way, way up. In the last year I think I spend more money on e versus paper. Can’t see that trend changing.

Well, Karen, you can’t just drop a comment like that then expect us not to demand answers from you. Everything I’ve searched on CP and everyone I’ve spoken with has had no problems with them. So, frankly, we wanna know what you be talking about.

I think ARe takes 40%. They’re owned by the same people who own Linden Bay Romance.

Freya’s Bower and Wild Child Publishing are also not listed over on Let’s Gab, and yes, both outfits edit and expect high standards from both their authors and editors.

Hmmm…I can say this. CP is and has always been on the up and up. I worked closely with the publishers and I can tell you they treat their authors better than a lot of publishers I’ve seen. Theyโre human just like anyone else so that means that they’re not perfect but I can guarantee you when they say they believe in you, they mean it.
And remember this is coming from a person who at this time is not affiliated with CP in any way shape or form.
