Diana Debalko from Siren Publishing, posted the following, in order to set the record straight, referencing my last Ocean’s Mist post, that alleged that Noemi (the morally bankrupt publisher/shyster) had gotten a contract with Siren.

Hello, We want to set the record straight with regards to Essence. Essence does not write for Siren Publishing. We dropped her on March 25th once we discovered she faked her legal name in her signed contracts. Rest assured, we do not support misconduct in this industry where we value our authors and our readers. Sincerely, Diana DeBalko (aka Amanda Hilton), Publisher, Siren-BookStrand, Inc., www.sirenbookstrand.com

She faked her name on a legal document? Wow.

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not Loose Id follow suit. If she lied to Siren, what was to stop her from lying to LI?

I’m glad that Diana took a stand, and kicked that bitch to the curb. I’m hoping Loose ID follows suit once they find out what a c**t she is.

I wonder what name she gave Siren. Because she gave
this to Loose ID: Elsa E. Torres

And from the authors who’ve been burned at OMP, I’ve learned that her true name is: Noemi Rivera

Seriously, used a fake name on a contract?

Not to get the chopping block out, but Siren now has a legacy of not doing their homework when looking at signing an author. Diana signed Jaden Sinclair, and word is that even after the majority of her authors told her she was bad news, she didn’t even consider getting rid of her. It was only after that completely insane email came out where she ranted and nothing was spelled right that got the attention of the bloggers that she let Jaden go. Glad she got rid of ‘Essence’. I’m interested to see if Loose ID will follow suit as well. Using a fake name is appalling.

  • Using a fake name is appalling.

And the perfect out for any publisher she misled, I would assume.

  • Hello,

I want to make it perfectly clear that Jaden Sinclair never had a signed contract with Siren. We received email from only two authors voicing their personal displeasure with having her onboard. However, there was absolutely no pressure in our decision not to pursue Jaden. She simply could not meet our criteria.

We perform our due diligence at a level that can be reasonably expected of any e-publisher. In the cases of Jaden and the “real Essence,” neither had received signed contracts from Siren, so quite frankly, we are doing our homework.

We run our company based on sound business practices, which we realize will satisfy most people. However, a few will never be happy no matter what we do.

It is not and cannot be our objective to please everyone.

I wish you all the best.

Essence has 2 covers from Siren Publishing on her myspace. I don’t know if its just me, but an author that doesn’t have contracts with a publisher shouldn’t have official covers for that publisher. Doesn’t some artist have to be paid for that?

Huh. The Jasmine’s Call she has on her MySpace with the Siren cover and the June 08 release date is listed on OMP as a May release with a different cover.

Apparently Essence, Noemi, and Jolie du Pre all have books coming out soon at OMP

Jaden had a Siren cover too before she was let go. So does Siren make it a habit to make covers for authors they don’t contract? I’m a bit confused on that.

OMP site is down too. I doubt Jolie wants her books there. I remember her saying she was trying to get them down.

  • “Essence” is her pseudonym? Essence? WTF? Maybe I’ll change mine to Miasma. I’ve always liked that word.

I read the original posting that says Essence used fake names on her contracts and was dropped, then the other message from Siren says she never even had a contract. It seems like the information came from the same person though… Am I reading this wrong? Ok, I’ll admit I am confused…lol

  • Hello,

An author receives an unsigned contract from Siren via email, then completes, signs, and mails it to us via post. Normally, we validate the contract by signing it and mailing it back to the author. In a few rare cases, for very specific reasons which are explained to the author, we decline to sign the contract and drop the author.

All rights to Siren covers belong to us exclusively. Use of a Siren cover by anyone not under contract is unauthorized.

We post this only to clarify any confusion regarding our previous postings.

Sincerely, Diana DeBalko, Publisher, Siren-BookStrand, Inc. http://www.sirenbookstrand.com

  • Regardless of Publishers policies (I am still baffled by the 2 covers made for books without finalized contracts), why was Noemi signing a fake name on contracts? To hide she owned OMP? Or was it something else?

I don’t understand how a cover can be made without a signed contract. Plus authors are usually asked to fill out some sort of cover art form too… I just don’t get it at all…

I’m not sure what people mean by “OMP is shut down”. They still have books listed for sale, and I was able to add them to a cart and get to the point where I handed over my bank info to purchase them. I didn’t because I didn’t want to put money in her pocket, but the possibility is there.

*moment of hilarity* On a side note, was reading the author bios there at OMP and one has this:

From an affluent background, she initially attended a Catholic women’s college and graduated from business school. Throughout her abusive marriage, she secured employment and then was battered out of it, writing for two small newspapers and working at more mundane office positions. After being widowed…

OMG she killed her husband!! */moment of hilarity…not the battered part. that sux. the ‘he suddenly died’ part*

Do you know what grabs my attention reading the biographies at the OMP site? The number of women with alleged degrees in psychology and the expressed concerned for battered or abused women. Most of these read pretty shadowy here, and I’m puzzled; if they’re so concerned about women being misused by men, are they as vocal about incidences of author abuse by someone of their own gender? Does anyone know? Very curious here.

  • I found that in my inbox this morning. The nerve of that woman. I shouldn’t be amazed…I swear I shouldn’t-but at her stupidity I cannot help it. Are people really that dumb in world? Can’t the IRS go after her ass? Can’t the authors come together and hire a lawyer to threaten her with a lawsuit?

  • Hi Jade,

In my original letter to them (which remains unanswered) I gave them until the end of May to remove my books. As of today – they have two weeks to comply before my lawyer takes action.

  • With regard to Siren and Loose ID, publishers are free to do what they want, but I will not work with, buy from, or link to a publisher that signs the head of OMP. Publishers are aware of the many complaints about OMP. If they sign the head of OMP, that tells me they don’t give a damn.

I’m happy that Siren does not have Noemi on board. Now what’s the story with Loose ID?
