Disgraced Ex-Ocean’s Mist Press Owner Fakes Her Name On A Contract Again…
Thursday, June 12, 2008Posted in: Authors behaving like twits, Ocean's Mist Press
Apparently, Siren wasn’t the only publisher that ex-Ocean’s Mist Press owner, Noemi Rivera lied to, about who she was. She also apparently faked her name over at Red Rose Publishing. She got found out though:

Subject: [redroseauthors] Important Information for you all!It has been brought to my attention the owner of Ocean’s Mist Press was at Red Rose Publishing. She was writing under the name of Maria McBean. She submitted to us and gave us that name and signed her contract as such.
When this was brought to my attention I ran her social security number and it showed that it did not belong to Maria McBean but belonged to Noemi Rivera.
I am so sorry as I have concluded that she has commited fraud as she fraudulantly signed an alias and that makes her contract null and void.
She has been removed from the authors loop plus her book has been taken down or in the process of being taken down at all the other places we are distrubted at.
She has breached her own contract and is NO LONGER WELCOME AT RED ROSE PUBLISHING! Nor would she have been welcome if she submitted as herself.
I wanted you all to know what was going on. I am so sorry as she SCREWED every one she has ever came into contact with.
Take care and have a great evening!
Wendi
What a cheating skank.
I wonder if Loose ID still feel comfortable having her in their stable? Or perhaps they’ve binned her already?
Anyhoo, at least she’s getting just what she deserves.
Thanks to you-know-who for the tip-off.

LI still has her books available for purchase. Haven’t been to OMP to see if that May release actually got released.

What the hell is wrong with that bitch? Can someone be really that stupid to think that no one would ever find out? Legally, something has to be done.

Rumor has it that the ladies who run Loose Id are quite aware of Noemi Rivera’s identity. Because they’re considered a top publisher, she is said to have taken pains to make sure she was allowed to submit despite being a ‘publisher’ herself. She’s been with them a couple of years now, way before her thieving and con artistry became well known.
Since Loose Id hasn’t responded yet, it’s probably because she signs her contracts using her legal name.

No kidding. Can’t she be sued for breach of contract or fraud or something for signing legal documents under a fake name?? If all she gets are her book rights back and a ‘you can’t publish with us’, what good is that? She just sells her book to some other unsuspecting eejit.

The Red Rose people should document and turn over their information to the IRS. If there is a history of tax report fraud or neglect with this individual, the bureau should be able to confirm and conduct any needed further investigations.

I have a question. If she had a fake name on the contract and the checks were sent to that fake name, how could she cash them?

Bonnie, my day job is a banker and I can answer that question for you. A lot of banks and check cashing establishments allow second-party checks and she could have easily gone in and endorsed both names on a check. I think PayPal only requires an email and bank account number as well. If anyone know differently about that, please correct me.

Stephanie is right. My name is the only name listed on my checking account, and my hubby’s checks are deposited into that account by signing his name, then mine.

In the case of LI, if she signed under her own name and hasn’t done anything to breach those contracts, there may be nothing LI can reasonably do to dump her. They may be stuck waiting out the term of the contract before having to apply in writing to terminate.

Loved the photo– used to have a pair of similar style in pink dyed lizard skin. Those things hurt my feet. A lot. So where’s the sexy husband waiting for his wife picture?

Looks at picture. Reads DS’s reply. Looks at picture again. Blinks eyes slowly. How would that work? Suddenly, DS’s updated reply arrives!
Damn, and here was I picturing DS’s lovely pink “dyed lizard skin” asshole! Then trying to imagine her “sexy husband waiting for his wife” in the pictured position. And wondering how whatever they got up to left DS with sore feet! I think I just broke my imagination …

Why though?
Why on earth fake a name on a contract? I don’t understand what was in it for her to not use her legal name.

Because her real name is mud all over Romancelandia for screwing over authors with shady business practices. I’m pretty sure if Red Rose had known who she was they would never have signed her.

I had one book contracted with Ocean’s Mist. When OMP folded I did not get paid my royalties. I also understand that a lot of other authors and artists, didn’t either.

She approached me last year using her real name asking if Mojocastle would accept her books even though she was owner of another pub.
I answered that I might if the books were something I really wanted, but with certain stipulations, including her inability to be on the private author list or be privy to discussions that might constitute a conflict of interest. I also pointed out the clause in our contract that states the author can’t utilize anything or speak of any correspondence between us or on company lists.
She said no problem and to watch for her subs, but I never heard from her again.
