This despot has been allowed to murder thousands of Zimbabweans for years, under the nose of The West, with no retribution. He’s an evil megalomaniacal dictator who needs a bullet in his head.

He lost the first round of elections, but refused to give up power, and due to his expert intimidation tactics, managed to scare off Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the only opposition to his reign. Tsvangirai bowed out of the run-off elections because he feared that the violence would escalate even more. In all honesty, I can’t really blame him, but somebody needs to stand up to this evil man.

On Friday, Mugabe held the run-off elections, unopposed, where supporters of the opposition party were allegedly forced to vote. He of course won, and will probably stay in power until he dies.

He’s been responsible for so many bad things that have happened in Zimbabwe, and it just feels wrong that he has been allowed to rule in such a tyrannical manner over the last thirty years.

I feel that it’s time for the UN to intervene.

Zimbabwe is neither a European country, nor rich in oil, so the UN will stay out of it.

Lea is right. No oil, no help. No extensive diamond mines, no help. No resources considered valuable to the west, no help.

  • The most the UN will do is appoint him UN ambassador responsible for human rights or something equally ridiculous.

  • He is an evil, evil man and it is wrong that his terroristic ways have been around so long – but the UN won’t do anything. They are a complete and total waste of space.
And the US government (and note I emphasize government – not the American people)doesn’t give a sh%t either – nothing in it for them. They only topple evil dictators if there is something worth stealing. They only care about sending young men and women to die if they can profit somehow.

Well, Mugabe did say he’d stay in power til God removed him.

    God, apparently, is otherwise occupied.

I agree that the UN should intervene. Not the US. I’m tired of going myself or sending my brother all over the world to police everyone, potential profit or no.

As a Zimbabwean, I can honestly say that none of this surprises me.
The man has ruined what was once a beautiful country and broken the spirit of her people.
It hurts me to say, but even if they did manage to get someone decent in power, I think the country is too far gone by now.

Hate to say it, but Lea is right. It’s ridiculous how the world works.

Why is it that we don’t intervene in places that actually need help? The money obviously. Unfortunately, some of Britain’s major supermarkets are injecting millions of £s into Zimbabwe buying produce – in normal circumstances, that’s not a bad thing, but none of it is going to the people, only into Mugabe’s pocket.

It’s not just the UN sitting by, the AU have said nothing during the current summit. The president of Gabon even called Mugabe a ‘hero’. There’s one more day to go, maybe there will be a statement or action but not so far…
