Pardon Me For Asking…

Posted in: WTF is that?

But what the hell is pony-play?

I was over at Samhain checking out the new releases, when this caught my eye:

Warning: This title contains the following: explicit sex, anal sex, bondage & discipline, pony-play.

Yippee, all of my favourite subject matters in one book.

I’m guessing this is a sexual act, but I find myself feeling quite disturbed, when trying to imagine what the logistics could be.

Anybody?

  • Since I’m familiar with your tastes, K, trust me when I tell you: you don’t want to know.

  • Going to agree with Kayleigh, Pony play (unlike doggie style) is one those kinks/practices that’s pretty niche and definitely is not your cup of tea, Karen.

Here’s the Wiki page on Pony Play and another online article on Pony Play

(I Goggled Pony Play. I’ve also used Pony Play as much times as possible in this comment to ensure you get some interesting search terms over the next little while. lol.)

btw, I saw the book in question at Samhain and was thinking about buying it, but I’ve read an erotica with pony play in it previously; it was well written, but isn’t really my thang

It’s a BDSM thing. Harnesses, bits, stirrups, butt plugs with tails on the end. Not my bag, but…whatever girds your loins, I suppose.

  • And now I’m going to agree with Vanessa (lol) in that it’s a very niche thing. I know you aren’t a fan of BDSM in any form, K, but rest assured that not everyone who practices BDSM runs around with a horse tail plug shoved up their ass.

Anne Rice writing as Anne Roqueleire (sp?) uses it in her Beauty books; not really something I’m into, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

  • The show Bones on Fox actually did an episode that featured pony play. Yeah, I was, um… Let’s just say it’s totally not my cuppa tea. I thought it was really odd to say the least. But hey, I guess there’s something for everyone! =P

  • I first ran into pony play while reading the Beauty books. They do a lot of thatin one of the books and all I could do was shake my head and giggle. 🙂

  • I am into BDSM and kink and all that but I was watching a group walk by at Folsom Street Fair once all done up in the hooves and the tails the blinders etc etc etc and all the Pony Gear and it was just too much.

Call me simple, I mean I can have a blast with the simple things like well worn chaps or a nicely filled out jock strap or even the occasional harness or handcuffs.

BUT… If you need that much shit on to get off sexually you are doing something wrong.

  • Ooph, I actually knew this one. I’m pretty sure HBO’s Real Sex had something on it once.

I’m not sure there’s any thing else to comment on, lol.

  • Who really ‘needs’ anything. Some people enjoy it. There is actually a range of pony play from very sexual bondage/latex type stuff to more interesting ‘being cared for’ types of fantasies and also crossing over into furry/anthro roleplaying.

Check out the movie “Secretary” for a rather amusing example.

  • As long as a person’s sexual activities do not depend on lack of consent–rape, pedophilia, anyone unable to consent for whatever the reason, i.e., illness, mental limitations, what have you–who has the authority to say that anyone else’s way of getting off is “wrong”?

  • Oh, I won’t call it wrong. But I will call it damn funny.

  • Actually, I’m planning on buying this one, simply because Ms. deLully’s La Bonne was excellent, and her La Ceinture actually got me all hot and flushed over a belt. If any author could get me worked up over this pony stuff, I’m betting it’s her.

  • Dee, I was referring to this:

If you need that much shit on to get off sexually you are doing something wrong.

  • Gotcha! Honestly, my only concerns with anyone’s sexual habits is when they want to tell me about them. I’m sure someone would think my relations in the bedroom are funny too.

Well, except that church group we interrupted once, but that’s different. 🙂

  • Well, there’s goes that theory shot to hell, Karen! The only times I’ve come across Pony Girls has always been in U.K. based Black Lace books, so I just assumed it was some kind of “special” British kink (ya pervs) that left this American scratching her head in confusion.

  • All sex is funny, whether you do it right or wrong.

There are varying degrees of pony play, as with everything. From a simple horsey-back ride, to a complete stable with carriages, it all falls in there.

Not my kink, but a lot of people seem to like it.

Dee, you need a macro, “SexXoring UR doin it rong”

  • Really not my bag. I read the Beauty books and could not for the life of me imagine why someone would enjoy having a horse tail in their bum. I own a horse. Those tails are hard to keep looking nice!

There’d be no time for anything else. “Oh, I can’t go to a movie, sweeties…I’ve got to stay home and groom my horse-tail anal plug now. You know how much work keeping my tail nice is! Love you. SWAK.”

  • Pony play is not my thing, though it bears certain aesthetic elements that appeal to my love of leather fetish and bondage. Leave it to Madge to explore the more artistic side of pony play in this clip from her Confessions Tour:

  • Oh, that’s what it’s called. I read it in Anne Rice’s “Sleeping Beauty Series” and didn’t realize it @ the time. Harnesses, butt plugs and bits are DEF not my style.
