I’m loving this quote from Ms O:

Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.

Oprah Winfrey

I couldn’t agree more with this next quote:

Excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism.

Oprah Winfrey

This next quote really spoke to me:

Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.

Oprah Winfrey

And this last quote is a sentiment that we should all live by methinks.

Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.

Oprah Winfrey

She’s such a great example of how far belief in one’s self can get you. All this and she’s a reader too.

    Love this one.

  • I like “If at first you don’t succeed – give up.” Why waste time trying to do something you’re bad at if you don’t have to? Concentrate on what you can do well and do that to the best of your ability instead. Certainly give it a try, but if it’s not for you, have the wisdom to know it.
    The rest were fun.

    No doubt.

  • I finally subscribed to her magazine. I was buying it every months on newsstands anyway, so this means I get it early and cheaper. All kinds of good stuff in there. One of my favorite things ever was an essay by Marilynne Robinson a couple of Novembers ago. I bought four copies of the magazine that month so I’d be able to give them away to friends and family.

There’s an excellent quote from Churchill along the same lines: “Success is the ability to go from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm for the task at hand.” Something like that anyway. I think it’s a common sentiment amongst very successful people. Personally, I can only bang my head against the wall so many times before I give up – which no doubt goes a long way towards explaining why I’m no Churchill or Winfrey!

  • And now, from the cynics’ side:

Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Fail again. Just keep pissing away your time, effort, and patience believing you can do something you, in fact, can not do, because your ego outstrips both your talent and common sense. The only people who always tumble are the delusional ones who keep mounting the high wire when they’re too damned inept to stay on it. All those moments, wasted! You’re a putz. Own it!

    😉

Sorry, but I cannot climb aboard the Oprah love train that seems to be going on here.

1 – MOST of her reading choices are boring and/or pretentious at best. She has nothing but disdain for romances even though a poll on her own message boards showed that 50+% of her viewers (I am assuming/guessing) said they preferred to read romances. @@

B – All her defenders are quick to point out all her good deeds. There really is no need for that, SHE is the first one to point out all her good deeds. Which, IMNSHO, is NOT what a truly charitable person EVER does. @@
