(This visual post is in honor of the wunnerful orannia, she of theΒ equally wunnerful Walkabout blog)
So you have a book addiction and have run out of space in the normal book venues (aka, the visible bookcases) like this:

Living room
or this :

Bedroom
So you start improvising, looking for less obvious places. Like, say, this:

Headboard
or perhaps, this:

On top of a table
But that’s not even close to enough! What to do? Well… how about the closet under the stairs?

Left

center

right
And yet, it is still not enough! So you look around, and find a couple more spots, such as:

Over a window

over another window
and under the first window
(This one held most of the TBR mountain range, but it was triple shelved–not good!) So we keep looking… and we discover that there is some unused space behind many doors, like this:

will you look at that?
and then…

where did they go?

I just did this today. Put shelving unit into my walk-in closet. Since the books were all there on the shelves anyway- and I don’t have a metric-ton of clothes- this worked fine for me.
But not all of them fit. Could it be because LaNora takes up 2 of the 5 shelves????

I have a bookcase sitting on top of my chest of drawers in the bedroom. It reaches all the way to the ceiling. It means, if I want a book off the higher shelves, that I have to stand on the bed and lean across the gap to reach them…or wait until hubby is available to reach them for me, him being so much taller than I am and all.
I also converted the “linen closet” in the hallway into a floor to ceiling bookcase using cheap DVD/VHS racks. It’s crammed full, too. The bottom two drawers on my beside table are crammed full of books as well. The top drawer is too small, so it’s full of all my other necessities like book light, Sony eReader, medications, and remotes for the TV and DVD player. Then on top of the beside table is a wire rack that some bath accessories came in sitting on its side and containing my favorite DVDs with two sizable stacks of books on top of it. There’s also a pile in the floor. And that’s just what’s in THIS room. I have more stacks near where I sit in the living room and my craft room has a nice little collection of books as well.
So many books, so little time. And I bought two new ones today. *sigh*

Sweet flapjacks of wonder! I’m plain in AWE. Should I bow? I feel like I ought to bow. Curtsy lowly at the very least?

Hmmmm. I have that problem, too. Have ten bookcases and contemplating where I can stash another. Books are all double shelved. And sitting around in stacks on tables, the ottoman, the desk, chairs…
I need a library. And a librarian.

KMont, thank you, you made me smile.
My s.o. just took me around to the local UBS yesterday, so that last bookcase, the one behind the door? Is now crammed full.
Time to start looking for another overlooked cranny capable of holding some books π

Wow. Your place is like a library for romance readers. I think I’d like to spend a few weeks on holiday at your place. I’ll just peruse your numerous shelves… sit and read. And read. And read.
Do you make homemade tamales, by the way? *bats eyelashes*
p.s. I’ve done that bookcase behind the door trick, too. In my room and in my girls’ room. When you’ve got a small place to begin with, it’s a great trick! π

I LOVE IT! Ingenuous! All my books are in boxes, but once I buy a house the first room I’m rennovating is my library! Screw the bedroom – it’s all about the library!

Those book shelves are a work of art, and a testament to your ingenuity! π Now you have me looking around my new apartment, saying, “Hmm…” The possibilities are endless!
