wrong

So, this arsehole is actually selling pirated ebooks on Ebay.

Amongst his ill-gotten wares, are books by Terry Pratchett and Dean Koontz, as well as a disc with 550 erotic romance books:

these 550 ebooks are in LRF for the sony reader

can be supplied in PDF for adobe

publishers include such names as :-

CHANGLING , ELLORAS CAVE , LOOSE ID.

AUTHORS INCLUDE:-

ALEXIS FLEMING

ALICE ORR

ALICE GAINES

ANASTASIA BLACK

J W MCKENNA

JADE BLACK

ASHLYN CHASE

JEIGH LYNN

RAINE WEAVER

RUBY STORM

SAHARA KELLY

TARA NINA

TIELLLE ST CLARE

TITANIA LADLEY

VIVI ANNA

Cheeky little bastard.

Anyway, apparently the powers that be at Ebay aren’t all that interested in doing something about it, but if enough of us pick some of his listings and file a complaint, they may step in and do something.

Anybody can report an illegal listing and copyright violations are illegal.

What you need to do is:

Scroll down to the bottom of the list and click on report listing.

From there, there’s a drop down menu asking reason for report.
Click on “counterfeits and copyright violations”.

You then get another drop down box, and you need to click on “other potential infringement”

Then another drop down box, “offering to electronically send or receive copyrighted materials”
(He’s obviously burning the discs, so it’s applicable.)

Then a brief descrption box comes up and all you have to do is mention that he’s selling copyrighted material without authorization

I realise some people wont give a crap about what this seller is doing, but if enough of those people who do give a crap, lodged a complaint, then the Ebay peeps might have to take action.

I just don’t understand how Ebay can allow somebody to blatantly sell pirated e-books on their site. This dickwad has a disc with 49 Terry Pratchett books that he’s selling for $9.71, for crap’s sake. It’s just so wrong.

Freaking arsehole.

  • Man, that makes me mad! I reported him. I’m not thrilled to post that he’s there though–Don’t want to send him business. But I will share your post with people I trust.

Reported them, under both selling and buying ID. People like this peeve me off no end!

And will get some Aussie booksellers to do the same..

Going to plagiarize and repost this on my blog.

Anyone know why eBay allows stuff like this? Was looking up a book the other day and saw over 400 ARCs up for auction from pretty much every genre.

They argue that they do not have the staff to police the site, and basically leave it up to the community to do the policing.
But then getting them to act on those reports.. can be fun… sigh

  • Okay – I put a report in on this little prick.

  • Unbelievable. I guess because none of these people are getting slapped (they do for illegal music download but not books) people will keep doing it openly, flauntingly.
Grrrr…. I’m off to report him.

I went to do the routine to report his listings, but it seems all your efforts have already paid off. I didn’t click on all of them, but did on most and apparently the listings are no longer working.

Going back to the link just now showed that there were NO listings at all. So good job, everyone.

  • Good work guys, his listings no longer appear on the site, yay! Mind you, he’ll probably turn up under a different name, but whatever, he’s not selling those ebooks anymore.

    Hi Again,

This is all far too complicated for me !

I’ve just returned from a day out in the sunshine watching the English cricket team getting hammered by Australia – great amusement if you’re Welsh of course !

(Not so funny if you’re English I guess).

    Best Wishes To You All,

  • I love that out of all of the hundreds of ebook cds he has sold, only ONE person lodged a negative complaint that they were scanned books.

Surely the buyers don’t think this is legit? Sad.

Yep, I saw that, and not only that, but he’s burning the same ebooks over and over again methinks. He’s creating copies of his copies. Thieving bastard.

Surely the buyers don’t think this is legit? Sad.

I’m pretty sure these people don’t give a shit whether the ebooks are illegal or not. Pretty sure they just want a ‘bargain’. Which is what 550 ER books for under $10 would represent.

It’s all very embarrassing. Although they’re still hanging in there by the skin of their teeth.

I would have done something, but he either took down the listing or it sold, as he has nothing up for sale any longer. Sorry.

He Elaine, don’t apologise, he had tons of ebooks up for sale, and since we started lodging the complaints, his listings have been taken down, so I think the peeps at Ebay took his page down, which is a result for us methinks.

I’m afraid for ebay this is par for the course, but yes, the listings are gone. I bought new HC D&D books. The seller offered me three CDs worth of D&D books afterwards. I reported him to Wizards of the Coast, Ebay, and one of the other smaller publishers. Only the smaller publisher replied and thanked me for the report. Ebay is becoming a well-known haven for scammers and thieves.

OK – so I left the ground too early : England battled it out for a draw and a Welsh crowd cheered them on for a change which makes me feel quite proud to be an English/Welsh mongrel !

They’ll be toasting Monty Panesar from Llandindod Wells to Abertillery tonight (and I bet most of your readers are wondering where on earth they are).

Cymru am Beth as they say around here,

Okay, I think I just found another pirate on ebay. Same volume of ebooks with a disclaimer to the ebay staff that the person is authorized to sell the items.

Person also has what they call a Nora Roberts/J D Robb Ultimate collection with over 180 books in ebook form. Hmmm, wonder if Nora and her pubs authorized that? Me thinks not. LOL

Sellers name is getreadybid I’d put in a linky, but I don’t know how to with just a hyperlink. Sigh

If anybody wants to report the above ebay seller

    http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/getreadybid_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_ipgZ

that Mari posted, you can do so. Follow the same instructions as above, report the listing-the tab is over on the side now. But follow the above instructions and when the box appears for listing numbers, you can paste this list. It’s about half of his listings.

    320396886591
    320397903881
    320397907594

    320398090249
    320398232193
    320398232919

As he is claiming resale rights, he’s not just violating copyright, he is also outright lying. No author or publisher gives resale rights on ebooks away.

I went back and did more searching of the ebook category. From what I gather, that whole blurb about having the “right of resale” is legitimate when it comes to one of those get rich quick, work from home schemes.

You purchase a CD with hundreds to thousands of self help articles on it, and then resell it to others.

So it seems that a few slicksters have decided to try the same philosophy with fiction books. They slap on the happy crappy tag line to try and fly under Ebay’s radar.

I have the feeling these two individuals aren’t the only ones who will try this, so I’m going to check Ebay every day. You have to figure that some of the purchasers didn’t buy for their love of a good book, but to copy and sell for themselves.

Thanks mucho, Karen, for the alert, and if we keep vigilant, maybe we can make this stop entirely before it morphs into something that can’t be controlled.

If anyone has Ms. Roberts email, notify her. This is not going to EVER stop unless someone with clout actually does something about it.

  • I am going to venture to say that Ms Roberts’ representatives have not been idle on this front from the beginning, Mireya.

The thing is, pirates are individuals, not a borg-like entity. Stopping one or a bunch by scaring or banning them won’t stop a few hundred more from popping up elsewhere (or in that same place).

What is essential is to educate the consumers on the fact that they are buying stolen goods when they buy from pirates. If there’s no market, there’ll be no pleddlers.

@AztecLady: No, I am aware of that. It would be like trying to stop illegal peddlers from selling counterfeits in the streets of New York City. In this case however, the entity that should be pressured is eBay. They are facilitators.
