question

You’ll notice there is no Dilemma Friday today, I did have a decent one to post, but I wanted to know if this is a feature that’s worth keeping.

If you want me to continue with the DFs, please let me know in the comments section.

If you don’t give a shit, then don’t bother posting a comment.

If I get enough yeses, then I’ll continue to post the DFs.

Simple yes?

  • This post looks lonely, no comments? You have a lot of apathetic readers, Karen 😛 Dilemma Friday isn’t really my favorite post. I usually skim the post itself, and I think I’ve only ever commented on two of them (not that I’m a frequent commenter to begin with). But it seems like easy enough content for you, and I don’t hate it. But I don’t love it as much as the reviews and other general things you and azteclady post.

I don’t see it is as something that is all that useful to most people. You’re just getting opinions and they’re like arseholes: everyone has one. Some people read the comments and take them out of context, misread, misjudge, or just plain deliberately reads more into them than what is said and that starts a ‘discussion’ or a lambasting. If that’s your intent, then by all means continue. If it’s confrontation and insult you want, that’s a good way to get it.

Why Myra I do believe Karen doesn’t give a shit about what you say either way.

Unlike Myra, I think dilema Fridays have been handled well, is a good way to speak your opinion. So yep Karen, please continue.

hey I love DF… because I can always pick it apart and totally turn it around… Its one of the few things I post to… which may be reason enough for you to tank it because my opinions are pretty much like ass (I cant even say it)… I have one, and its usually loud and smelly… per Myra

  • I really like Dilema Friday… Heck, even if I don’t get over here all week, I like to see what Friday’s new dilema is. I don’t post very often, but I do enjoy reading the dilema and others thoughts of it.

So my vote is yes, please keep Friday Dilema.

  • Hmnn, I’ve enjoyed a few of them and commented. Maybe something publishing related? Publishing dilemmas? You’re good at finding them, anyway!

  • I think it depends on the dilemma! I always check what you’ve got going on off my own sidebar and come over if I’m interested. It’s a unique feature in blogland, too, which is so refreshing, so I tend to say keep it. I think it’s also important to consider if you are burned out on it, because if you are, I’d say, chuck it, or give it a vacay. Oh, look, actually, this is sort of a dilemma Friday…about dilemma Friday.

    I DON’T GIVE A SHIT BUT I’M COMMENTING ANYWAYS!!!

Actually, I like most of the DF’s, and don’t think you should get rid of them.

I like the DFs. Maybe if you are getting burned out on them you could do them less often; like once every two or three weeks instead of weekly. But if you’re not then I think you should continue on as you’ve been doing.

I like DF. I don’t always agree with the common consensus, but I have a thing for reading people’s opinions and I enjoy this feature.

I like them. There’s often interesting discussion in the comments, and it’s fascinating to me how some questions have “obvious” answers and others think the exact opposite.

Even though I am a major lurker, I do really enjoy DFs–they make me think and that’s always a good thing.

I love the DFs. They often give persons like myself the pulse on what others are feeling. Reading the responses often make me think beyond my little world, and put myself in others’ places.

I also like the fact that they are not limited to publishing and what not. It’s a refreshing break.

Even if you decide to do them only bi-weekly or monthly, I’ll still be here reading all the comments and adjusting my view on the world.

    Yes! Please keep it.
I look forward to it every Friday.
It’s nice to see all the different opinions and the discussions that come out of it.
Twice now my opinion has been swayed from my initial opinion on certain topics to totally going to the other side of the fence. That is shocking for me because I’m very stubborn, so it’s hard to get me to change my mind about something. I love a good debate and learning new ways of looking at something.

Myra, speak for yourself. Who the heck are you to say what is useful to most people?

  • It’s not a topic that interests me, but if other people like it. [shrug]

  • The Dilemma Fridays are one of my favourite features at your blog. They’re always thought-provoking and I enjoy reading the comments. I hope there are enough people interested that you choose to keep them up.

I’m just on the computer for the first time today, and after checking my email the first thing I thought of doing was checking what the DF was this week.

So, yes, I like it. But it’s only worth keeping if you enjoy doing it yourself.

  • Like Kristine, I’m a major lurker, so you may not want to count my opinion. That said, I like the DF posts – they make me stop and think, which is good in a world which seems to be taking the thinking out of our day 🙂

I always check, usually lurk, but it’s different from anything out there and I especially like that other people occasionally share possible dilemma situations with you — so it has that universal thing going. Your decision but I vote for keep.

  • Oh, I like the DF fridays. I may not always comment, but I read them pretty much every week.

  • Yes, please.

Since I don’t think you started to blog in order to be “useful” to anyone, I’ll say that I love when people post things that make me think and question my knee-jerk reactions to stuff.

Reading what other people think or feel about the different DFs may or may not make me change my mind, but almost always it helps me figure out why I believe or think the way I do. I really like that.

  • I think the only reason you shouldn’t do DF’s is if you no longer want to do them. It’s your blog and if people don’t like it, they don’t have to comment.

  • I’d like DF much more if it didn’t seem like every one was focused around kids. It’s a fun little activity, DF, but I find it hard to muster up much “give a shit” and really consider the question when the situations center almost completely around kids. Even the ones that don’t focus specifically on the kids often mention the person in the dilemma has them, as if it changes answers somehow because of it.

So I guess my answer is yes, I’d like DF to continue, but could we have some variety. People without kids have dilemmas too, lol.

I do not care for the Dilemma Friday posts, but I don’t get exercised about it; I simply skip them. If you had not asked, Ms. Scott, I would not have complained about them.

I doubt that my opinion is of much consequence, though, as I am a long-time lurker. I hope you are getting the sort of feedback you need.

  • Karen, most of your DF questions are interesting, although I don’t comment on them all. The only time I get annoyed is when someone may act a little too anxious to have their opinion stand as the only right answer. But this doesn’t happen often and like others have said before me, opinions are like butt-holes, everyone has one. And if you enjoy doing the DF that’s what really matters anyway. This is your blog and why have it if you can’t have a little fun?

    ReplyReply

  • Yeah, yeah, I’m late in posting. I got way behind on my Google Reader (still 250 posts behind) and I’m just now seeing this.

I like the DF because of what it exposes about your commenters – especially when I see folks dragging out a publicly acceptable face when I know darn good and well that human nature would compel them to act differently.

The hypocrisy is way more interesting than the expected or the PC answer.

Lol, your reason for keeping DF wins!
