Reading, reviewing and stress

I haz a surprise

For one reason or another (often one reason after another, with the occasional “many reasons at once”) I haven’t been reading much during these past couple of months.

Most of what I have read has been partial re-reading of favorite books–a chapter here, a passage there. Of the handful of new-to-me books that I have managed to read (Ken Follet’s Pillars of the Earth, Shiloh Walker’s Candy Houses, Nalini Singh’s Blaze of Memory, and Bronwyn Parry’s Dark Country just now **), I have not managed to produce one single, solitary review.

Considering that reading is my most enduring vice and that I honestly, truly and completely enjoy writing reviews, these two things alone should tell you just how stressed out I’ve been lately.

The really good news is that a major source of stress and frustration in my life has just gone “bye bye” and henceforth only relatively minor ones remain.

So brace yourselves, people, it’s likely I’ll be back in full force soon, to drown you in opinions, reviews and assorted commentary.

Aren’t you all just ecstatic over this news? 😀

**[as luck would have it, all of these have been really good reads, by the way–one would think that would have broken the slump like nothing else, wouldn’t one? Pity it didn’t have that effect…]

  • Stress can be a killer, besides messing up your life. I’m happy that you’re in a better situation. I look forward to your reviews.

  • I’m sorry to hear you’ve been so stressed lately.

I’m like you, I find it hard to get into reading when my brain is stressed. I end up catching up on old TV episodes instead.

  • Stress or no stress I go through reading cycles. I can’t find anything to interest me, or make me finish to the end. To reading a book a day for two to three weeks.

Anyway, glad you found your groove again.

  • Sorry to hear you’ve been stressed. There’s nothing worse than not being able to get into one of your favorite things.

    Hang in there!

  • At least the source of your stress is gone–that’s a good thing.

I finished Bronywn Parry’sAs Darkness Falls last weekend and Dark Country is at the top of my TBR pile.

  • I’m glad to hear you’ll be able to spend more time on one of your favorite vices–although why you think reading is a vice, I have no idea. And yes! I’m ecstatic to hear you’ll be back full force reading and reviewing. Maybe you’ll inspire me to do more myself. It’s been months since I reviewed anything…

  • I can’t say it’s stress per se, but the piles of stuff I have to do induces stress. I’d rather read and play on the internet. But do I get to???? Nooooooo!

I’ll be looking for you. Glad everything seems to be smoothing out.

I empathetize. Am very glad to hear that one of the stressors in your life and vamoshed (I hope it is OK to use that word?) and all the best with the reading and reviewing…and hopefully the time you spend online (she says hopefully). I’ve missed you…hence the stalking *grin*
