I’d like to welcome Raven’s Reviews to Romanceland…
Raven is unusual in that she will be reviewing African American romance, so those of you who insist that colour doesn’t matter in romance, be sure to pop along and say hi. 🙂

Thanks for the heads up, Karen. I’ve read less and less Af-Am romances over the years because I just can’t afford to buy books without reviews that I can’t trust. I’m not a fan of the current category romances so I’m leery of Kimani. I wish there were more writers like Sharon Cullars and Sandra Kitt, two of my favorites. Unfortunately Cullars is seemingly out of the game for now.
When I was a member of the IMRR site I got a lot of bum steers. I gradually came to realize that some of the readers liked ANYTHING as long as the heroine was black.
I’m looking forward to finding some new authors as I have given up on buying mainstream romances.

Hence, Barbara, why I wrote my post “Hungry for More”–I’m trying whatever AA author I come across, but I have yet to find a great read based on reviews because they are all so shinyhappyperky positive. I’m so glad Raven has stepped up–we need more voices willing to view AA romance not as a sociopolitical message, but as what it is: fiction.

Barbara B., Sharon Cullars has a book coming out in February from Loose Id. I’m not sure of the title, but it’s a historical for Black History Month. She’s on Facebook, so you can get more information there.
