It says I like you … which for anyone that has been in long term relationships is almost as important as never forgetting to say “I love you”. I like the first couple a damn lot. You can’t fake that kind of rapport.
Or … playing Devil’s advocate … his eyes are open looking at her. Her eyes are closed, shutting him out. He’s thinking, “Being President is the most awesome thing EVAH! Smile for the photographers, Baby!” She’s thinking, “Yuk it up, Big Guy. You’re gonna PAY for putting me through this crap.”
FWIW, I do think that the Obamas have a good marriage. The kind that comes from working through the hard stuff and learning to treasure the good stuff. Real love, strong and true, with the blinkers off, where you know and acknowledge each other’s faults but love them despite it. I expect them to be married until the day they die, but I have no doubt that Michelle is keeping a tally of what he ‘owes’ her and the girls when the whole White House thing is over. And I have no doubt that he will acknowledge that and ‘pay up’ when he leaves the Presidency.
I think that the real “first” of the Obama presidency is that he offers the American public a vision of a good man, who can be a good husband and a good father, and still manage to run America. His real gift to America may well be to make people realize that they don’t need to vote for the traditional arrogant, politically expedient asshole in order to get a man who is capable of running the country.
I really love that picture. To me it shows that private connection between a couple even in the midst of a public arena. And wowsa, they are def in the big time when it comes to scrutiny.
I see the love…and the like. I imagine he just said an aside to her and she laughingly whispers back, “you are such a dork,” or something similar. A playful exchange meant for their ears alone.

It’s so genuine. Love, trust, or happy … they just genuinely like each other. I love that.
